Dunfries & Galoway is full of lovely 9 hole courses, many near to good sites. One course at Kippford is an absolute cracker, called Craigieknowes; stay nearby at Kippford or Sandyhills. St Medans is also a great course, right by the sea & near sites at Port William. New Galloway's 9 hole course is superb - first few holes uphill then you keep on top of the hill with amazing views until you feel like coming back down; Loch Ken site for that. The one at Gatehouse of Fleethas 6 blind holes in the 9. The problem with being close to the two big cities is that the courses tend to be 18 holes & expensive, matching house prices and the city folk's golf club membership. No 9 holers that I can think of by St Andrews - when folk are going there to play the famous courses, they're not intersted in the shorter ones. There are several 9 hole courses along the north shores of the the Firth of Forth not so far from Edinburgh, but the East Lothian side of the Forth has one expensive 18 hole course after another, reflecting its golfing history & it being Edinburgh commuter belt. But look at the VisitScotland website, it's as helpful as any. And, as I said, I think your biggest & cheapest choice is in D&G, you can get a Golf Pass too.

Hoddom Castle just off the M74 near Lockerbie has its own 9 hole golf course.

Thanks all for that. In the past we had a good response from The Welsh Tourist Office with the full list of 9 hole municipal courses but not so much help from their Scottish cousins.
Have played St Medans 2 years ago which is ideal & the campsite is at the end of the road. Wanted to go more into The Highlands & keep away from the expensive larger courses.
Hoddom Castle looks an ideal starting point.
Now have a bit more info to go by.
Thanks again.

OH says Perthshire's got a dozen. Arran has enough for every day of the week, almost, and a pass too, I think. Many in Argyllshire too - the Carradale site in Kintyre (nice site there, though a bit pricey) is amazing on a sunny day as you walk up to the top of the first hole & Arran is revealed in all its glory.
The Tourist offices have an A4 free thick brochure (almost a book) called, as you'd expect, Golf in Scotland, revised annually. And OH has just checked - VisitScotland lists all the 9 hole courses in the see-do section, under the areas (Borders, Cairngorms etc) AND you can download the Golf brochure as a PDF from the VisitScotland website. The Highlands will just be staring to turn autumnal, golden birch against a blue sky - ideal for a round or two, you'll enjoy it. Might be worth checking for 2 for 1 vouchers, if there are 2 or 4 of you playing - Bunkered magazine / website is Scottish, but there are others. That way you could do a pricier course without breaking the bank.
PS the Arran course at Trump Turnberry is 9 holes, currently £10 instead of £40 with www.teeofftimes.co.uk C&CC site nearby at Culzean (National Trust) or the nearby CS at Thomaston Farm.

Excellent again thanks. We stayed at Culzean last time & couldn't get on the 9 hole Turnberry as there was a comp on. Played 9 at Maybole & another 18 at Girvan mixed links/parkland just South of Turnberry which was excellent. Will probably go higher up as mentioned. I have looked at the Visit Scotland 9 hole brochure & will cross reference it with camping sites. Was hoping that they already had the link. Wales were more helpful as they were at the time pushing golf.
Thanks again.

Machrihanish in Argyll, great site, one of the top courses in Scotland which is affordable, also Mach Dunes(amazing course) beside it, Dunaverty and Carradale too..
With the road equivalent tariff (RET) in place it's also very cheap to use calmac to cross Arran(which saves a long drive)which as mentioned has half decent courses, but Kintyre wins hands down for me 😊
