If you want your dog to roam free on your pitch then why not invest in a Coveva dog fence Not cheap but they do the job. A couple opposite us had one and it kept their 2 labs and a JR fenced in.

If you think anything of your dog, then keep them tethered for their own safety. We had an inceident on a north Wales campsite where our own two dogs were tethered and kept within the porch area of our then Tunnel tent. Along comes a couple from a motorhome with a Yorkie on a fully extended lead letting it wander wherever it wanted to go, including around our dog's food and water bowls, with the consequences of it ending up in a dog fight as our two rescued dogs fiercely gaurded their food and bedding. This resulted in the Yorkies back leg being bitten, but the out come would have been far worse if our dogs had been allowed to roam free, and l had no means other than my bare hands to interviene and pull my dogs off the Yorkie and out of the fight.
The same senario could happen with a child who approched a dog to fuss it if the dog was not used to this type of attention and reacted badly, and dont even get me started on some mindless people who take their bitches away with them whilst they are in season, the howling and yapping from potential male doggy suiters on site, who can smell doggy love on the menu all over the campsite is unbearable!

If you own dogs (like I do) and want to have them with you when away on holiday, then no matter what you might feel and no matter how well behaved your dog is, if the site rules state that all dogs must be on a lead at all times, then those are the rules.
There is of course one way of getting away from this and allowing your four legged friend to have a proper holiday as well and that is to stop on a site that offers fully fenced secure, dog pitches!
I am amazed that there aren't more of them around other than the one I know of in the Dordogne, France!

I get so annoyed when so many people on site think the rules don't apply to them and walk their dog off the lead. If the rules say "dogs on leads" that's not the same as "dogs on leads unless well behaved"
We have had dogs in our awning and dogs bounding up in a frightening manner terifying my wife.
On the lead unless inside a closed caravan or tent.
Norden farm at corfe have a relaxed dogs policy.
