Hello
Only recently joined the CC. Was hoping to go away for weekends mainly, when weather is dry and fairly last minute (ie book when weather forecast known). Outside of school holidays, is it going to be possible to do that or do they fill up (in which case I'll reserve some weekends once bookings open)? Many thanks.

Hello........when you plan it........book it , do not wait, we have been unable to get where we want to be many times by delaying the booking. Suggest also join C and camping club.......expands the number of locations.
Happy caravanning to you and yours.
It depends which site you want to go to, and the distance from a large urban area. There are some sites that are just very very popular and they hook up very quickly and stay booked, there are others that are convenient for weekending from the larger conurbations and these fill for weekends, but there are usually some late cancellations at these. In other places there is usually availability all the time.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
As already mentioned, some sites get booked straight away and seem to stay booked throughout the season - Rowntree Park, York being a good example!
However, I have managed to get a few last minute bookings over the years. It is always worth ringing the sites direct, even if it is showing fully booked online - you might get lucky!

Weekends get booked up fast especially by motorhomers who try and get away regular weekends.
You would possibly be better off with camping&caravan club with your set up.

I agree with phoning the C.C site direct. Some people do book their full year ahead and for what ever reason sometimes have to cancel.
I believe they are allowed to do that 2-3 times a year? before the C.C has a word.
We have a favourite site which we use 3-4 times per year along with others and have phoned up at short notice and usually manage to get a pitch.

We often book fairly last minute but as has been said some of the honey pot sites are booked up a long way in advance. I have often found C&CC sites have room, I expect because they demand a deposit which is lost if you change your mind.

We almost never book & also don't limit ourselves to Club sites. There are plenty of equally good non-Club ones. Turn up after lunch, if they're full we go elsewhere but in 30 years that's rarely happened. It's handy to do a UKCS map search for the sites with the facilities you need & print off the map, just in case. We've also thought to stay somewhere, turned in at the gate & driven off again. So if we do book, we book a maximum of 2 nights in case we don't like it that much - it's always been possible to extend a stay, even at Easter in the Yorkshire Dales. For us, spontaneity is one of the joys of camping - the thought of being stuck on one site in bad weather for 2 weeks defeats the purpose.
