Had a great time in France & Switzerland this year, but in 2016 we are heading North to the west coast of Scotland around the Glencoe and Skye area, there are lots of sites to choose from and as we are retired can go out off peak.
Question is, do we go May or early June (thinking of the mossies :-) ) and would prefer the smaller CL type sites.
Outfit is a Nissan Qashqai with Orion 430-4
Thanks in advance

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
My own preference would be in early May, the midge is less likely to be an issue, although the midge season is generally said to be May till September ish!

Fwiw the first time I went to the western Highlands (Arisaig area) it was August and the midges were horrendous - I went again to the same area the year before last in late May/early June and wasn't bothered by them at all, in face there were hardly any at the site I stayed on.

Don't let midges put you off. The weather is often lovely In May - I got sunburnt on Skye one year and Arran another year. If you're going to Glencoe, watch out for ticks - get a tick hook from your vets or from O'tom, and check yourself daily. I recommend Mull as well as Skye - both very different - do a Search on the Forum and you'll find several long threads on Mull. They're both big islands, they'll need several days each. (Arriving by ferry is special. A bridge isn't quite the same...) The CalMac website also has lots of helpful photos & videos. I'm sure you'll have a great time!
We went in May this year. Had lovely weather in Edinburgh then went west. Definately no mossies. Far too wet. I think that area had a bad May this year. The scenery was absolutely stunning. Went to Mull and up to Mallaig. Arisaig looked nice. Stayed at Maragowan. Bunree and North Ledaig. All cc sites but none were busy.
