We run a CS site, just outside Llandrindod Wells. We have just been discussing fees for this year, and have decided to leave them as the last 3 years (£10 for 2 people) no extra for awnings, showers, dogs or extra cars etc.
It is very hard trying to fix prices as cant please everyone.

-------------
Visit Llandrindod Wells! Great scenery, walks, cycling, red kites. Ideal for exploring Mid Wales.

That is one of my pet hates Mrs Bonce, no waste disposal points or recycling facilities for rubbish and we dont revisit, and is the very reason why we will not be returning next season to a CL in North Wales that we have been visiting for many years.

Its just not good enough to expect guests to carry every scrap of their waste in their care and drive many miles into the nearest large town in search of public waste disposal facilities, and indeed there was evidence local to the site of rubbish being fly tipped into a woodland ajacent to a quiet country lane.

Julia

Julia, yes, it annoys me, too, (and I get very irate at fly-tipping) but it must be very hard for sites (CLs; CSs; Club or commercial sites to meet everyone's recycle expectations when different Councils have so many different policies on recycling (and, for the very small sites, can and will charge business rates which can cripple small businesses) to be available to afford it.

Last year a group of us were away for four nights at a site where there was no recycling purely because of Council charges (and can't blame them!). Solution was, regardless of tenter, m/h or caravan to take things we can recycle at home, home.

As a tenter, can't really comment on OP's comments on prices other than that there seems to be an enormous variation in prices -v- facilities.

We have just returned from White Hart Cottage CL in Pembrokeshire and their recycling rules have changed due to change in council policy. You need to read the instructions carefully, I was putting newspapers in the recycling bin, but now they have to be put in a box in the information room.

It is still a very nice site and we paid £99 for 12 nights, can't complain about that (but it's going up by a whole £ per night). The strange thing was, we couldn't get a Sky tv signal any more (we did when we stayed before), no idea why. Thank goodness for Sky Go, OH would not have been a happy man without his football!

We are in a tent, but I always look for a CS as my first choice.

I like the smaller sites, I like the quiet, and I generally find the prices much more reasonable than anywhere else.

But I suppose it all depends what you want. Personally, I'd pay more to NOT have a club house, or to be a long way from the nearest pub; whereas the next person might think it was too much to pay if there was no onsite entertainment or whatever.

But I do agree that basic water and waste and bin/recycling facilities are a must have. As are showers and toilets for us, but probably not for many.

One of the great things about camping is if its not up to standard move on, we have used cls club sites and independent sites and have always found most to offer value for money

Near Bridgenorth is a CL attached to a pub that charges £18 a night! As it is not too far from us we decided to have a look at what was so special about this CL.
The road going to the CL is terrible even in a 4 x 4. the site itself is level with electric on pitches, however it seems it is also used as an overflow for the pub's car park!
Definitely would not recommend it to any oneespecially at that price!

As I said before, price is no reflection of quality more often than not. An expensive area though, we paid £15 about 5 years ago at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club, on a sort of grass verge with ehu.

I think that paying £12 a night with EHU is fair especially in the winter and £15 a night if the pitch is fully serviced with EHU, water and waste points on it.
If extras like £1 a night for awning, £1 for each dog etc or the CL is metered we will rather go elsewhere.
A charge of £8 for a pitch without EHU is acceptable as many CLs with EHU only charge £10 a night.

I think they represent value for money, if you go to one and don't like it go to another one next time theres plenty of them about, simple.

You ought to search one whole lot more as there are still quite a lot of CL and CS sites that charge less than £10. As for me I am now a firm believer of wild camping in my self built (luxury) van conversion!

One person without EHU is often only £7-10 on a club site
