Cheers for all your opinions. We've gone ahead and become members of the CC and booked up to go away this weekend. Hopefully it's a first booking of many 👍🏼.

Indeed. Enjoy your weekend. Treat this as a trial year, rejoin if you're happy, don't if you're not. As you'll see from the responses, there are plenty of good non-Club (either Club) sites, you don't have to join either unless you want a Certificated place (and it can be bit frustrating as CCC CSs become CC CLs and vice versa - one of our favourite CSs has become a CL, so we can't go now unless we change Clubs).
We joined both clubs many years ago but prefer the C.C where we are still members. As they have our favourite sites and standards are pretty much the same between sites and much the same price as some non club sites of similar standards.
I have to say that the "rules" don't bother me and have never found they impact my stay, quite the opposite.
We use all kinds of sites, not just club sites if its what we want.
After the years membership it would be interesting to see what the OP thinks about C.C. membership and sites..

Well we loved our first weekend away as CC members. We stayed at a White Water site which was very well kept and literally four miles away from home which was ideal :-) We have now booked up to stay on CL site next weekend, which maybe slightly different, ha ha
