The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park is extending the areas where no camping will be allowed.

There is already a ban on camping on the south east part of the loch shore but this will now be extended to cover a number of areas around Loch Lomond and in the Trossachs.

I have not yet seen a map of the actual areas involved, but anyone thinking of wild camping in this national park next summer, would be well advised to contact the park's authorities for more detailed information.

I remember a thread on here some time ago complaining about the thoughtless campers, fishers etc who go out to enjoy themselves with no respect for the place, and leave litter and mess. Such a shame that the minority who behave irresponsibly spoil it for others. Whatever happened to 'take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints'?

We went for a walk through Glen Orchy last year. The mess left by one camp alone was shocking. Literally looked like they'd left their full camping outfit - only wrecked. Firepit with broken bottles and cans surrounding it, torn tent, broken windbreak, rubbish strewn all over. I was nearly in tears at the state in such a beautiful area. I later spoke with a cafe owner whose husband is one of the estate wardens. She said they can hardly keep up with the mess folk leave.

It is a disgrace that some people can treat the countryside as they do.
Loch Lomond is an area I have often wild camped in over the years and have seen the damage done and rubbish left.

Its not just how it looks but also the harm it can cause to wildlife.

Proposed banned areas

The above shows the proposed banned and restricted areas that may come into force shortly.

We have, in the past, wildcamped in most of these areas as they are right on our doorstep.

While I agree that "some campers" are spoiling our beautiful area, I personally would rather see better Policing and much higher fines for those that are causing this problem.
However with lack of finance, I guess the only option is this ban.

to be fair i wouldn't call any of these louts true wild campers
most of the junk has been found right near parking places which is tragic its an amazing place to wild camp. and no doubt a lot of ham mockers will still be using the area.

my only worry is now that they will move to Galloway forests or other areas to the south of glasgow

They already have done raftguid. You should see Leadhills. A bleedin' disaster zone.

Anywhere within 50 miles of Glasgow or Edinburgh seems to be fair game for a Hooray Hendry drunken party.
As long as it is not in their back garden, to hell with anyone else's back garden.

Can echo Lobey's comment - some ghastly sights in Galloway last year.

Thankfully on Mull such wanton behaviour is relatively rare, though when it has occurred in some cases it has caused the death of livestock as well as wildlife, let alone being unsightly. We're waiting to find out what this summer, with RET and increased ferries will bring.

It's a real shame that decent wild campers have to be banned for the relative few yobs.

When I first started camping, it was all "wild" camping.
Nobody went camping just for camping alone. Camping was a way of getting off the beaten track to access good climbing areas or long distance walking in wild places.

No proper wild camper today would want to camp anywhere near these idiots who spoil our countryside or annoy local residents.

There still are some great areas in Scotland where wild camping will bring you all the peace and quiet that you could wish for and anywhere more than a mile from the road should be just fine as the idiots will not want to carry their booze and their rubbish very far from their cars.
