Campsites and Caravan Parks in the UK

I am looking for a campsite somewhere within a two or three hour drive from Carlisle, that is right on the waters edge, be it lake or sea.

It must accept tents, preferably allow campfires and not be too packed in. I especially don't like rows of regimented caravans and statics, I'd prefer something a little wilder than that. It would be for two weeks mid July.

I have bought a stand up paddle board and I want to be able to base myself at the campsite most of the timerather than have to transport it elsewhere to use it.

Any ideas?

Red Bank Farm at Bolton le Sands is on Morecambe Bay, but I'm not sure how you'd get on with the paddle board. All your other criteria are met.

Thanks for that I'll have a look, and save it to my virtual brochure.

I also found one called Loch Ken Holiday Park that is near the Galloway Forest with tent pitches right next to the lake. The lake is shallow and used for other watersports like Kayaking.

I'd love to go all the way up to the Island of Skye but the drive is putting me off. I'll be sailing in from NI and my son is at Uni in Carlisle - so the plan is to pick him up and head off on holiday somewhere before taking him home to NI with me.

3 hours drive gets you to Loch Lomond, sites on west & east shores but check campfires with UKCS search facility - the Forestry Commission site won't allow them. Many sites by the sea in Dumfries & Galloway, such as Sandyhills Bay or Solway View, but the tides are dangerous, like the ones at Morecambe Bay.

Camping and caravan club at keswick is right by derwent water. They have a site on Windemere as well.

There's also a private site on the outskirts of Coniston village by the lake.
