I've just enquired about prices on a site. At £32 + £1.75 for a dog this is ridiculous.
We only get the state pension and can not afford this, even the two main clubs don't charge this much.
What do other members think, this is for a basic site with toilets and showers.

Not sure the site should be "named and shamed", just because one person cannot afford to park his motorhome there for a night. The OP's income, disposable or otherwise, should hardly be any fault/concern of theirs (The camp site).

Of course, if there was some sort of evidence, or even mere opinion, that the site was somewhat lacking, and therefore considered to be overpricing themselves, then fair enough.

Find a site you can afford, and leave them be. If they are too expensive, they will go out of business. Simples!

If you don't like the price then don't go there.

Camp sites are commercial ventures and they have a right to charge whatever they like. If they are overcharging then people will not go there and they will have to lower their prices.

OP, are you a club member? do you know about/use Certificated Locations (CLs) which are affiliated to the Caravan Club, or Certificated Sites (CSs), same idea but affiliated to the Camping and Caravanning Club. We use them all the time, just stayed at one in East Sussex which had a loo and shower, and electricity of course, cost £14 per night.

Anne

Pete,
Are you aware of the excellent UKCS camp site Search?

That link takes you to 20miles centred around Ross on Wye. Tick a few boxes on the left, then "Update search", to get a more refined result, suitable for your needs.

Good luck... and apologies if my previous post came across as "arsey"!

My only 'concern' regarding campsites that charge high prices is that people do still go there...people with good incomes go there. They don't go out of business.

When other nearby campsites realise that people with good incomes go there they put up their prices too, because they don't want to be seen as the poor neighbours and want their bite of the cherry.

...and so it goes on until prices generally have risen and those people with smaller incomes or the elderly on pensions are left out in the cold.

Fortunately there are still plenty of good campsites that charge a fair price and run their campsites because they enjoy earning an honest living rather than just having aspirations of becoming millionaires.

It's called a free market and applies to most things we spend our money on.

We are pensioners and so use the clubs C/Ls and the likes for most of the year and then once per year as a special summer break we have a couple of weeks on fully serviced luxury site as a special summer treat, so I suppose there is room for both in this world.

Regards, Les.

Prices are all set to a campers personal disposable income...What expensive for one couple is OK for another....Horses for courses...It's alsp dependent on your unit...So what is cheap for a caravan is dear for a tent....But 'we' all like a decent site.
