Hi, I might be overthinking this, but new to caravanning and still a nervous tower. We are planning on going to Chatsworth caravan club site on friday evening from Derby, so the obvious route is M1 to chesterfield, through Chesterfield to Baslow. I've done this several times without a caravan on the back, but I'm a bit worried the traffic on M1 at 16:00 - 17:00 will be a night mare and that chesterfield will be rush hour as we try to go through. Are there any better routes ? I could do A38 to Matlock but then I'd have to take a B road to Chatsworth, which if memory serves id very narrow in places.
Any suggestions, I'm sure if I was more confident I'd just an not worry about it, but as it is, I'm brickin it!

MSAutoroute suggests the A609/A615/A6 via Matlock to Baslow. Its about 30 miles.

You could go all the way up the A6 to Bakewell and then through Bakewell onto the A619. This road will then take you into Baslow.
The B road that you refer to is narrow and there is a hump backed bridge that is quite narrow too so you are probably best avoiding that.
Ditto!

Just a heads up not to take the B road though Chatsworth park whilst towing as caravans are banned due to the hump backed bridge, and the road tgrough Rowsley village is very narrow and often parked up on both sides of the road at the old Railway cottages and village shop, making passage very difficult even for solo cars.
From Derby l would take the A6 through Matlock then onto Baslow, the M1 is often gridlocked on a Friday afternoon from junction 23 onwards, as is the ringroad around Chesterfield. The approach road down to the Chatsworth CC site is a single track with passing places, so it is advisable not to arrive early whist other units are more lightly to be exiting the site unless your are confiedent and happy to reverse up your unit if needed.
