I have read the reviews and many mention noise from the industrial units. I have looked at the site on google maps. So my question is if we had a pitch by the river how noisy would it be? That seems to be as far from the road and indutrial units as possible and as some reviewers don't complain about noise is that because they were pitched near the river?

We have stayed here a few times and heard nothing but I just noticed you are in a tent. I think the noise maybe from the wagons going up and down the road early morning from Paynes dairy. The pitches nearer the river are obviously the furthest away from the road. There is a nice spot in a corner by the river alongside an embankment you could ask for a pitch there. Are you doing an overnight or holiday? If you want to know anything else please ask, I was born and brought up there. J x

When we went we were in a caravan not far from the river and could hear the noise at night.
That just one of the reasons we left after only one night.

We were there two weeks ago and stayed in a caravan near the river, we could hear the noise, but became accustomed to it, in a tent, it may be slightly more difficult, depends if you can cope with a hum of background noise and then engine noise from about 6am. The site suffers from flooding, the ground was very wet and only about 15 pitches were being used, concrete bases, hopefully its better weather when you go. x

Thank you for your comments. I think it is probably not the site for us. Last year neither of us could sleep because of the road noise at Chichester I think Boroughbridge sounds similar. I will search for a different site

If you want to be in that area there is always Spen House CS at Minskip which is just a mile away and no noise there.

I did look at that one but didn't like the review criticising the toilets.
Have now booked Sheriff Hutton where we have stayed before. Good clean toilets are very important otherwise hubby may well refuse to come!!

Oh, we've just booked for Boroughbridge. Just visited last year and pitches near river really nice. Didn't notice any noise, but of course we were only on a short visit to look around. But the site and toilet block were lovely which is important. Anyway, we often stay at Swan House which is right on the A19,near Northallerton with traffic 24/7. So,we don't mind the noise there, so we should be ok.

Wryly amused at the suggestion to ask for a particular pitch on a C&CC site - we've found that most Managers tell us where to pitch, the ones that allow us to choose are the exception. Whilst having a choice would encourage me to go to Boroughbridge, having had a sleepless night in a noisy CC site beside the A1 further south, these posts have put me off.

We're off to Thirsk CC site and have been 'informed' to choose a pitch well away from the front and the rear of the shops, as there's delivery wagons arriving early to the shops - and they're NOT quiet...

I suppose it all depends on whether you are in a tent or caravan. We have been twice and no noise but we are in a caravan. Both times I put in a request for a pitch in a certain area and got it. Its a real shame people are being put off this site because its in a lovely area with masses of lovely places to visit within about a 12 mile radius. I hope caravanners will not be put off going. J x

We (hubby) have always asked to be shown all available pitches at C&CC sites and have then taken our pick. Never had an issue and always been happy with our pitch
