Hi, I wonder if anyone has been to Longleat this season that can advise on the current set up.
When we went about 2 years back, we were able to wonder into Longleat and look around the open attractions, such as the bit with Meerkats and petting bit with lizards etc and then we used our Tesco vouchers to buy a day to see everything else. Do we now need tickets for everything?
Thanks

Im not sure about the tickets for everything, but we have not visited for a number of years due to the access roads being changed and apparent caos where both incoming and departing units are forced to use the same narrow lane, along with farm traffic and other wide veichles.
When we read about that in one of the members comments in the CC magazine, it put us off for good.

The new access isn't that bad, just a very short part that might be a bit hairy, but certainly not bad enough to put us off. I would say that the access to Haycraft at Swanage, is more bum clenching
We were there in December (review on here) the approach road does take care but not particularly worse than quite a few other campsites. This is the only access I know but it was changed a few years ago with more restrictions on free access from the campsite. The entrance is just up from the campsite and I would imagine there is no free access. On a brighter note if you go to the Caravan Club website and go to the Longleat site there are links to the purchase of tickets which are better value than buying at Longleat.

We were there last year and you needed to show your pass before being allowed in even the entrance by the site, with someone checking tickets. That was July not sure if they as strict out of season. Also didn't have any issues getting in or out. Road is narrow however passing places allow safe passing.

I think you are refering to the "sentry box" type shelters next to the road barrier? In December these were unmanned, atleast during the week and we could have walked in virtually unchallenged but of course you never know when you might be asked for your ticket so I am not recommending it!!!
Yes that's what I was thinking about David. We're there for 4 days and don't really want to buy 4 days worth of Longleat tix. Before you could wander into the grounds with just your CC receipt. Obviously that's not an option anymore.
