So the sun's out and we turn our thoughts turn to the big summer holiday! My 6 year old son reeled off a list earlier of things he'd like on a site for his next camping trip, I doubt such a place exists but if anyone knows of a place that might fit the bill that'd be fab :)

- not a massive humungous enormous drive [within 3 hours of sw London]
- a swimming pool [!!]
- a little playground
- a nature trail
- an ice cream shop
- near a fossil beach
- somewhere to play football

Things that are non negotiable for his mummy - good showers, a laundry, freezer block service, decent washing up area, a little shop for morning milk and not a haven type site. Daddy would like EHU. A pub nearby would be good too! I'm thinking the Jurassic coast might be a good bet but struggling to work through all the reviews! Thank you for your help!

Wood Farm, Charmouth?
Not sure about nature trail but a lovely walk across fields to beach where you can dig for fossils. One of the best beaches for digging and if your not successful there's a fossil shop and visitors centre.
Loads of ice creams to eat in Lyme Regis

Wareham Forest, Wareham, Dorset ticks all your boxes and is an excellent well kept site.

Thank you all! Lovely setting of Wareham Forest even if it looks caravan dominated and there's no EHU. Although the location of Wood Farm is better but there's a pool charge. West Fleet looks nice too :) This has all really helped narrow down my choices.

I'm sure there are tent pitches with EHU at Wareham Forest on the South & East Field. May be worth calling them.

What about the Isle of Wight? There are fossil beaches there and a some visitor centre about dinosaurs etc.   Lots to do on island for children that age too - robin hill for example. I'd recommend Appuldurcombe Gardens Holiday park. Lovely site has pool (currently being refurbished according to their Facebook page, but nearing completion) and a bar. Has a few statics in a separate area and then a touring area which had mix of tents and caravans. Not a massive site so not like haven at all. There was an area for football too. Clean showers etc and has a shop. Pitches have EHU. When we went you could use Tesco vouchers on the wightlink service from Portsmouth.

andyfisher, that's exactly where we stayed last year and absolutely loved it, even my canvas reluctant husband agreed by the 3rd night it was OK!

I just need that site somewhere on the mainland - we've done the last 3 years using Red Funnel 5 night breaks for around £130 but this year my boys' school holidays are starting later than last year so we're going to have go pay full whack on a site and there aren't any ferry deals to be had.

We found something similar (don't know about fossils though) in St Ives, Cornwall. It is obviously a longer drive than you wanted though. This is Polmanter.   It is lovely and we are going again this year for third time, but I think it is more expensive than Appuldurcombe.   We justify the cost as it is our main holiday and we don't go abroad! Despite cost it is very popular and may, unfortunately, be fully booked. If you like Appuldurcombe, you'd like this one too I think.   The beaches down there are beautiful and there is body boarding to be done! St Ives is stunning and a 20 minute walk down hill on quiet road from the site. I think the weather is more slightly more reliable on IOW than Cornwall though having done 3 years at each. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1484
