Hi,

We were originally looking at Northumbria for next week (half term mon-fri) but having a last minute change of plan and considering Norfolk.

We have never been and don't know it at all, so with over 100 sites to choose from and not a lot of time:

Which are the best areas to base ourselves?

Any specific sites?

We are 2 adults and 2 boys (7 & 4) in a tent pref with EHU, don't want to pay much more than £25 p/n, quiet is good (prefer smaller sites with no entertainment and noise curfew, although child-friendly is a plus) - happy to travel 30-60 minutes from right site to beach/place of interest. Travelling from NW,

I'm sure when Tigermouse sees your post, she'll not only be able to give you recommendations on areas and sites, but being located in Bolton, will probably be able to suggest routes for you!

Meanwhile, I know Norfolk is one of her favourite areas and gets quite a few mentions, with excellent photographs, in her blog on her homepage, so have a look through.

Have a look at Bureside Holiday Park in Oby. It is fairly close to Potter Heigham and is on the Broads. Even during busy periods there still is a fairly good chance of getting in. Many other sites are already fully booked over the Bank Holiday Weekend. I have been there quite a few times and have always enjoyed it. Places worth visiting in the area are Norwich, Potter Heigham and Wroxham, whilst the beaches are only about 30 minutes away. Good luck.

Just seen it, thanks HB

I always stay at this one - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=drewery&by=sitename

Nice quiet family-0wned and run site at California, six miles north of Great Yarmouth. The camping field is on a cliff top with direct access to a fab beach with no dog restrictions if you have a mutt. Many tent pitches do have ehu, the facilities look a bit dated but they are always spotlessly clean and the showers are hot and free. There's a small club on site (serves breakfasts and lunches) but it's certainly not noisy and you wouldn't hear anything from the tent field anyway. Small on-site shop for essentials and a nice pub/restaurant across the lane from the site entrance plus a take-away. A couple of very small amusement arcades for the kids nearby, and Hemsby with all its cafes, amusements and crazy golf etc just a mile walk north along the beach or a few minutes drive.

The site is very well placed for getting to places of interest and the Broads etc, and Potter Heigham, one of the boating centres, is only seven miles away. I can't tell you what the price would be for a family as I camp alone but it certainly won't cost you an arm and a leg. If you do go there I can certainly give you directions, it's my second home!

Woodhill East Runton near Cromer. It would be next week £23.60 electric pitch or if you need a large one £26.90.We go there often.

We are near Bolton. Ideally he says no more than 2.5 hours, 3 at a push. Weather is going to be the biggest determining factor I think. Looking for somewhere with (inexpensive) things to do nearby with the kids - we are NT members, poss a beach or forest/hill for walks, maybe a nice town or small city nearby. Fancy somewhere new but in recent years we've done the Cotswolds, Gloucs, Herefordshire, Bucks, Derbyshire, N. Wales, Devon, North Yorks Coast & Moors so might have to revisit! We'd do the lakes but tend to do days there, and the lakes are VERY weather dependent for us. I'm packing the camping stuff right now but don't have a clue where we'll end up 😳

Think it was last week they were going. Maybe we'll hear where they got to?

I should have pitched in and recommended Red Bank Farm, Bolton le Sands.
