any ideas for campsite (accept motorhomes)actually next to the beach or a stones throw away ?
We like to pitch up and then not drive again until the off.
Public transport is a bonus and a pub walkable as minimum.
I have inputted 'Beach site' on the search but it's amazing that hardly any are.
thanks Kim
Try the Hi Tide Porthcawl. May not be everyones cup of tea and facilities are basic but you have everything lietrally on the doorstep.

Shell Island - probably about an hour's walk to Llanbedr village and station (via causeway so check tide times carefully) but pub, as well as shops, on site.

Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower is directly above a fantastic beach. There is a path directly from the site to the beach, but it is very steep. If you leave the site there is a much easier path from very close to the entrance.
The beach is beautiful, has three huge rocks that give it it's name, a little stream that runs into the bay and it's very sandy and safe. The site itself has lovely views.
There is a pub within walking distance, but the nicest ones are a drive away (one at Llangennith, the other called the Greyhound but I can't remember the name of the village).

Plenty in Scotland, too many to list, but it's a long haul from Gloucestershire. UKCS map search is helpful.
------------- 2025=3 sites, 5 nights; 2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Pembrey park. You can stay on Caravan club site by entrance, or camp in actual park known now as Golden Coast campsite.
Basic facilities set in country park and beach walkable.
There is a licensed cafe on site, not sure what time it shuts though. Though there are pubs within walking distance on main road of Pembrey. Dont know how accessible public transport is. We always stay in park as live local.
regards
Milly

If you want one in Scotland for next year, Sands Camping and Caravan site at Gairloch is fabulous for being right next to a beautiful beach, where you can walk straight over the dunes onto it, and providing you clear away after yourself, you can make campfires on the beach, and sit watching the stars and constellations at night, it is a magical place and very special to us.
They accept motorhomes, caravans and tents, and have great facilities yet retain the away from it all feel. We've met some fantastic people there, the whole vibe is lovely.
No walkable pub though, but a fantastic and unbelievably well stocked campsite shop (I have never seen such a fantastic selection) and a cafe/restaurant onsite. Not too far from another lovely beach just down the road, and the main town is about 3 miles, where there is a lovely old harbourside pub serving wonderful food, and right by the entrance to a beautiful waterfall walk.
You don't need to go far to find more stunning scenery, and in my view would be well worth it to break your usual rule of pitch up and stay put.
