I wondered if members could give me some ideas on caravan camping sites in mid to south Scotland. Not a big site with 100s of vans (husband's worst nightmare) but somewhere that our 14/15 year olds would enjoy too, during the school summer holidays. Maybe has a swimming pool, not fused whether it has a club house but teenagers could find that more beneficial to them, near to lovely countryside where we can walk/bike and not too far up into Scotland as long tow from Gloucestershire. Many thanks.

The Ranch at Maybole near Ayr? Affiliated to the Caravan Club but not a club site as such.

Yeah, went to Brighouse bay last year and it was lovely. Quite a big site but very well spaced out so doesn't seem it really. Pool and club house which is used by golf club so doesn't get too loud and brash. You can also use outdoor pool at Seaview down the road if the weather is kind which we did twice!!! Lovely place and would go again.

I went to the top of the mountain...and looked over the other side!

Another shout for Brighouse Bay - but check out Gillespie Leisure's other 3 sites in the area. Sandyhills doesn't have its own pool, but has the use of the one up the hill at the Chalets

If you want to go as far as Fife or Perthshire there are some gems...

1. Crail - pretty village, but next door is 'The secret bunker' - a vast underground relic of the cold war that would have housed local government in the event of war.

2. The Falkirk wheel - a wonder of hydraulic engineering with boat trips along the Union canal

3. The Linwater campsite near Edinburgh is close to the 'Indoor climbing centre' - and there's Edinburgh itself.

I can also recommend a Land rover safari in the mountains. Many estates offer these and access really wild and out of the way places.

In Dumfries & Galloway, there are various small festivals that might be of interest.

Two drifters off to see the world.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
