Is it just me or does anyone else find that searching for a small basic campsite preferably that allows campfires really hardwork ?????
if I have found 1 then invariably its only open for the school holidays
I wanted to stay near Swanage at the end of the month I found 5 sites which fitted the bill ie small cheap queit fires allowed etc but all of them closed till the end of July if I wanted to pay in excess of £15pn then there are a few bigger sitesbut as a lone camper I dont like these sites
does anyone else have the same trouble ????

Have you looked in the campsites with fires category? I know of such a site but near Brecon.

Hi

I know what you mean, when I am looking for a campsite I only want a camp fire, toilet and no dogs. Swanage has a lot of camp sites to offer sorry you can't find one to suit. I know a few small sites that allow fires however they are around the Midlands.

Think she's looking for one in the Lake District now, Anne, from her most recent post.

Plenty of basic sites up in Scotland, though reviewers may criticise them for not having modern toilets (old is fine for me, if clean). It's a long way for you to come, but it might be ok for a fortnight's trip. Check Solway View, near Kirkcudbright, for example: basic, but they have fire pits, and fabulous dark skies. I've also been to plenty by the sea or lochs where people have campfires on the beach, but fires aren't not allowed in forestry sites or on peat due to the fire risk.

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Hi, I also try my best to go to small campsites which allow fires too. Nice to hear of like minded others. There's a lot more than you think once you start searching through this website. I've found to be a real asset. I've mainly camped around North Wales , Shropshire and Yorkshire though. Found some real gems but your right that it does take some real hunting to find the good ones. Let me know which area your planning to go to next and I'd happily suggest some sites.
