Looking for the perfect site for a few days away in the tent in Devon or Cornwall in late August/early September.
The site of our dreams is within 15 minutes' walk of a pub that serves excellent real ale and good food, very close to a beautiful beach or somewhere equally scenic, is quiet (preferably adults only) and has excellent, free, hot showers and very good toilets.

To give you more of an idea of what we like, our favourite site is the field in front of the Wasdale Head Inn. Isolated, quiet, superb walks on the doorstep, basic but good bathroom facilities and great beer and food within staggering distance.

Any suggestions for our dream site please? Or something that's pretty close? Sadly, transplanting the Wasdale Head down to Cornwall isn't an option.

Can't think of anywhere I know in Devon or Cornwall, but if Dorset would do you, I can recommend the Golden Cap site, a few miles west of Bridport.

From the bottom of the site you cross one small field to the (shingle) beach. It is overlooked by a very nice pub with great views. When you fancy a change, it's a 10-15 minute walk to the village where there's another very nice pub. Lovely walks and views, and both pubs are dog friendly.

I haven't camped there for over 10 years, but when I went, the shower/toilet facilities were excellent.

Have a look at Sunhaven Valley in Mawgan Porth. It does have static caravans as well that are well separated from the main camping field. If you go early September there are likely to be very few campers staying there and limited children if any. It has strict rules regarding no noise after 10>30 and this is very much adhered to.Its in a very peaceful valley. Beach is approx. 10 - 15 minute walk along a really pleasant footpath directly from the site and there is another footpath leading to the pretty village of St Mawgan - pubs serving food available in both.

Thanks, I'll have a look at both of those. We stayed in Mawgan Porth many years ago when our children were small and loved it, it would be great to go back there!
