Am scratching my head about stopover sites for our Cornwall run this year. We'll be doing M1, M42, M5 - leaving Leeds about 4pm on a Friday evening :-(
How far do you reckon we'll get in? Mr WR wants to knock off about half the journey then stop, but I'm not sure we should gamble on getting a good run and think we should find a site near the top end of the M42 ... But what site - I don't really want motorway services, nor do I want a huge detour off the motorway?
We are members of both clubs, but don't want to be watching the clock if we are stuck in a jam and getting stressed in case we are locked out! We don't need facilities - happy to use on board. Help please!!

You haven't stated if you have children with you but if you haven't then there is an 'adults only' site not far from the M42 at junction 6 near Birmingham but it may be a tad expensive for a one night stop over.
Thank you Troon! Yes, Kingsbury's lovely but they're two nights only and have the arrival deadline of either 7 or 8 o'clock, if I remember correctly, which doesn't give much margin for error if the M1 comes over all Friday-night-ish!!
As an alternative, there's a Caravan Club CL called 'South View' (not listed on UKCS) which they allow one night stop overs. The charge is £10 per night and in easy reach from the M42 junction 10. Just continue along the A5 to Tamworth then take the 4th exit from the A5 (Sutton Coldfield). Departing from the CL you can pick up the M6 toll which will then take you directly back on to the M42 which as a Caravan Club member you will you will get a discount on the M6 toll and further information can be found if you click on the link then scroll down to the bottom of the page.
How about Chapel Lane CC site just off junction 3 of the M42. A bit lower down the M42 than you perhaps wanted but it's really easy to get to, less than 10 mins down a dual carriage way.

Chapel Lane would be a good one. We store our van there it's easy to get too. The approach road is narrow but it's so quiet in 3 years of being there I've never met anything coming the other way.
Chapel lane would be good, but it's the pesky arrival cut off that will catch us out - we can't set off any earlier than 4 from Leeds and if the M1 is Friday-ish, we don't have much margin for error at any of the Club sites around the 3 hour mark .... :-(
