Chris ,I don't live too far from Porthcawl but I have asked some friends who live local.
The only one they mentioned was Brodawel ,which is about a mile from the beaches.
Not sure if you want Porthcawl for a particular reason,eg fishing ,or just the beaches and surf.
One friend said it can be noisy throughout the kids summer holidays.
