Is it campsites you are after? Or non-camping places that offer outdoorsy adventure?
I second the New Forest - I think there is a wooden cabin sort of place called Sandy Balls, otherwise lots of good campsites. You can hire bikes from several centres to cycle through the miles of well marked trails through forest and heathland, there is a company that does canoeing trips along the river from Beaulileu, beaches to swim from, lots of lovely walking. We stayed at the Camping Unplugged site at Lower Lepe - it allows campfires, which is a must for us.
Also the Lake District - a long drive, but a wide choice of campsites (the NT site at Lower Wray is well spoken of) and cabin / pod type places and luxury options - the obvious fell-walking and hiking, second to none, boat hire on lakes, rowing on Ullswater, the Via Ferrata from Honister Slate Mine - a route along the side of Fleetwith PIke with climbing - you have to be roped on and there are bridges made from cables etc. Very adventurous! Also a company called River Deep Mountain High run day courses in climbing, abseiling, canyoning, canoeing, kayaking etc.
