Thinking of Polmanter - will have at least one teenager and a Labrador in tow. It looks great - any thoughts? We've never been to Cornwall and really like the look of the St Ives area. Does anyone have any experience of Polmanter in high season with teens? Or in fact does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks everyone !

Don't know about high season, but at low season it was very pleasant.
The pub down the road does good food!

Kitcat, how important is the campsite to you and how much of your holiday will you spend inside it? Polmanter is hugely popular with people who like that sort of large site - it may even be fully booked already for the August dates you want.
Others come here to Cornwall for surfing, lovely river estuaries, walking the cliff paths, climbing down to hidden coves, wonderful gardens, better art galleries than the one st St Ives, National Trust properties, and music festivals. - and choose location within the county rather than one particular campsite.
Just hope for good weather.

We live in Cornwall, love St Ives and regularly stay there. We've not stayed at Polmanter because we use Ayr Holiday Park. Much closer to town and views to die for. Doggie friendly so great for your lab! Short walk into town/beaches too.
We've just got back from Ayr over Christmas. Check out our blog for the views from the campsite.

However, Ayr is not cheap, especially in high season and they may well be fully booked already. Worth a bit of research though.
Good luck and enjoy our wonderful home county!

Thanks everyone I know we may not have that much choice at this stage in the year. To be honest if it was just the grown ups we would choose a simpler site but with teen / s to amuse it will probably need to be something with a few facilities.

Hi kitcat we have just booked Polmanter for August but had to ring up as nothing was available online. Booked Friday to Friday as this was the only option left. Staff were very helpful and website has an interactive map showing pitches. Looks a lovely site first time for us as we have decided to holiday here instead of France for the first time in 20 years! Area looks amazing we also have a 19yr old son and a Labrador coming with us hence wanting a site with a bar etc to make it more like our usual French experience. Just hope the weather is decent. Good luck with your booking. Sue

I love this site ..but it has become so very expensive ...the prices for dogs is terrible...and then there are too few beaches you dog car go on. On saying that it very well kept and lovely.

Hi Kitcat,
It's a few years since we stayed at Polmanter but it was a lovely site even then with very good facilities which have probably become even better. It's a decent walk, all downhill, into St Ives but may be good for the dog and the teenager. Nice thing is there is a bus ( or was ) which goes back to the site so you can send the dog and teenager back on foot and you can catch the bus ( should tire both of them out ).
Seriously if the weather is good it is a lovely location, hope you enjoy.
John

Thanks Jane and John we usually go to LP but won't be able to take sufficient time off to get down this year so I'm hoping this will sweeten it!

Close Kitcat, it's John and Janice and I don't think we have met at LP but I have put many comments and photos over the years of LP ( for those wondering what we are talking about is Camping Le Paradis at St Leon sur Vezere in the Dordogne ) which is where both Kitcat and We seem to have been many times but our paths have never crossed. Better luck next year Kitcat!

We have been to Polmanter the last 4 summers and booked for this August. We have teenagers who enjoy the holiday. It is a lovely site although costly, but we are willing to pay as it's our main holiday. There's a lovely walk into st Ives about 20 mins. There are regular buses though too straight on to site - good to come back on as uphill on way back. For dog owners there is an issue with the beaches in st Ives as most not dog friendly. Theres a little one called bamaluz I think and another part of the beach can be used when tide out. The main two beautiful beaches in st Ives we visit and stay on the beach side bar with the dog. For surfing/body boarding there's a dog friendly one at Mexico towans - lovely beach but need to drive there. A trip to Newquay is good too as Fistral beach (famous surfing beach) is (surprisingly) dog friendly. When boardmasters festival is on - good atmosphere teenagers would like. Lots to see in Cornwall I'd expect you to like it - especially if the weather is kind!
