Shocked at the increase of prices, am I the only one? Middle weekend in March at New Forest Centenery site £46. Last weekend in March at Morn Hill £45 for two nights?

Lots of independent sites here in Cornwall are better value. Example Trewithen Camping, two miles from Padstow, will cost you £14 a night for two people up till July. That includes electrics , toilets and showers - though there is an add on for awnings and dogs. But you can manage without those can't you. Great reviews of the campsite on here and on TAdvisor too.
You could spend all day hand picking CC sites that are more expensive than Independent site and vice versa.
Type of site, time of year, popular area , number of people, dog or dogs, awning etc etc are all factors that determine the price of site.
In general I have found that although the CC may increase prices dependent on season etc, some Independent sites can be more expensive at the same times.
Its a minefield but not true to say CC are always more expensive.

That's why we only use CLs/CSs, usually not more than about £16, cheaper than that if you choose sites without loos and showers. Usually no extra for dogs (which we have), but often extra for awnings which is why we have a twin axle, no need for one.
We tend to go low season now we are retired, there are mid week discounts on CC sites and we get over 55 discount with C&CC.
Some uk sites do ACSI too.We stayed at one in Dorset and got the discount.

Just to clarify (so as not to disappoint any 54-year-old members!) the age concession now starts at 60.
"An extra 25% discount for over 60s
We offer additional discounts to those members who are aged 60 and over, which we call our Age Concession Rate (ACR). This means that Two adults camping as members with accredited Age Concession on a grass pitch, compared to two non-members camping, on a Club Site will save an additional 25% per night.^
^Based on the assumption that both members have accredited age concession. ACR is available on pitch fees in all seasons except high season."
