We've booked to go to Ceredigion in the summer which will be a 5 hour drive for us. We were thinking of breaking the journey up and travelling about half way spending the day/night somewhere en route so it's not such a long journey for the kids. We don't want to set up the tent for one night to have to pack it up again so were thinking of a yurt/wigwam (not sure we will get one for just one night in August) or B&B or travel lodge.
The problem is we have a trailer without a lockable hard top, we have a wheel lock. When people stop off what do they do about the trailer? I think we'll struggle to find a B&B or hotel that can store it safe.
Suggestions of anywhere to stay or advice very welcome please. It's not worth us buying a lockable trailer top as hubby only has the current company car until the end of the year then once he gets a new one he's no longer allowed to have a tow bar fitted only a roof box.
Thank you very much.

Well, which direction will you be travelling from? Difficult to advise of places if we don't know your planned route-:)
Having said that, 5 hours isn't too bad. You could do a middle of the night start, and drive straight through, the kids would probably sleep through it. Or an early start, then stop off for breakfast halfway, have an hour or so break, then carry on, be there by lunchtime. There's quite a few possibilities, I think I'd prefer any of them rather than leave the trailer unsecured overnight.
Depending on where you are going in Ceredigion I imagine you will be travelling through Shropshire or Hereford shire. There are plenty of Farmhouse B&B which would give secure parking.
The early morning start would be my option, that is what we usually do.

Have you thought about making a wooden lid designed for the trailer which you can fix hasp and staple brackets with padlocks to secure the trailer contents?
The trailer could then be used on holiday to store any equipment without the thought of it getting stolen in your absence.
I know it doesn't directly doesn't answer your question but at least it would be peace of mind leaving the trailer over night if you have to.
Are you travelling from Doncaster to Cardigan? In that case you will only pass through a little bit of Shropshire.
Travellodge type places are not very common in this area west of Shrewsbury, but there are plenty of farmhouse type B&B's that will be perfectly secure, even with just a soft cover over the trailer.
Remember that Powys has one of the lowest crime rates in the country!

Plenty of B & B's between Welshpool, Newtown, Llanildoes, and Llangurig. Not much of anything between Llangurig and Aberystwyth. Plenty on the coast between Aber and Cardigan.
Have a look around Pentreclawdd Farm, which offers pods.
This is just off the A5 just north of Oswestry. I have never stayed but regularly see this from the A5 when travelling.
There is an availability calendar and they do not seem to be asking silly prices.
You would pass here if travelling via M56/A483/A5

Only comment I would make about those, from friends who stayed there, is that they can be noisy, as they are near the roundabout and it is busy all night.
