Hi any recommendations for a good site within a 3 hour drive of Cumbria which is for older children and a dog. The children are 12 and 13 and probably past play parks or at the upper age range but I just don't want to go somewhere with a really tiny park geared up for 5 year olds.
Many thanks

What about Brighouse Bay in dumfries and galloway maybe too all singing and dancing for you. But near the beach and has a pool and lots to do in the area. It is listed on here in the campsite directory.
I havent been but it is popular.it is owned by a leisure group and they have other quieter sites in southern scotland that may suit.Sue

Nice site at Berwick upon Tweed. Easy walk into town.

If you want to go a bit further, Linwater just outside Edinburgh is a great family run site. Near Scottish indoor clinbing centre - for a bit of excitement.

Thanks if all else fails I was thinking maybe Brighouse Bay. Was thinking maybe Northumberland or Yorkshire. To be fair I like the quieter sites with maybe a pub close by so at least BB has got more of an adventure playground

Islecroft at Dalbeattie is a small friendly site adjacent to the park and boating lake.
The site is right behind the main street with ample shops, pubs and restaurants.

Linwater, mentioned in a previous post, is one of my favourite sites but is two and a half miles from the nearest pubs and shops.

Brighouse has on-site eating & drinking, from memory; it's run by Gillespie Leisure. There's family golf & riding & other activities there. Kirkcudbright is a 15 minute drive away, they have family-friendly stuff going on in the summer (there's a website) and excellent fish n chips at Polar Bites. (There's a perfectly good site overlooking the town, Silvercraigs, it just doesn't have much for youngsters.) In the other direction, possibly the best ice cream (Cream o'Galloway) is made on a farm which has other family activities, near Gatehouse of Fleet. If you take care to check the tide tables, as folk do get stuck regularly, you could go to Kippford & walk out to Rough Island, quite an adventure. There's mountain biking at the various Forestry places, you can hire bikes: Kirroughtry is closest, I think, but the FC website has details. Amazing night skies.
Plenty to do in Norhtumberland too, of course, I just don't know it as well, but others will chip in.

Dalbeattie is a nice little town, but with very little in it. If I was staying there, I'd use the Glenearly site which is an easy walk from the town.

I agree about Linwater, but you can easily go to East Calder or into the city using the Park & Ride.

If your girls like horses then they might like Balloch O Dee, which has a trekking centre, plus the horses wander around the site! or 3 Lochs is also nearby and has lots of activities I think. We recently stayed at Balloch and loved it, but it's about 7 miles from Newton Stewart, the nearest town.

Thanks all I was slow off the mark last night with too much else to do to look into anything so its the first thing I will do when I get home tonight. The weather is looking the best towards the Newcastle side now for the weekend so please can anyone recommend a site on the Newcastle side (with nice food pub within easy walking distance and an adventure play area of sorts for older kids or somewhere kids can gather to meet other kids stream or similar)please?

thanks

Moffat is a good site. It is close to the village which has pubs, cafes etc. There is bike hire at the Green Frog Cafe next to the site.
There is a regular bus service to Dumfries if you want to visit a larger town.

-------------
We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
