Hi

Am desperately looking for a site with lots to do for an 11 yr old and in a nice area.

Have been recommended Whitemead Forest Park and River Dart Camping. Has anyone been to them?

The quality of toile/shower facilities is also important as its top of my wifes requests!

Or if ive missed any other options, please let me know.

We've been to Sandy Balls and Kelling Heath and really like them, particularly KH.

Thanks so much!

we have been to whitemead on many occasions and confirm it is a good site. The owners have just spent £3m refurbishing it too.

You won't find a better shower block, use the new one by the top field.

Thanks. Looking at the map, is that the shower block nr the basketball court? There doesn't seem any tent pitches near there?

Did you stay in a tent?

Thanks so much

Hi we stayed at River dart a couple of years back and had a really good time, even extended an extra night.

There is so much to do on site that we weren't really inclined to leave, although we did on a couple of days to visit the seaside, and Buckfast Abbey nearby (they do lovely food). We took wetsuits so we could enjoy the pirate ship lake and our inflatable boat. Park is beautifully landscaped with adventure playgrounds and den building opportunites all around.

The site was fully booked and during busiest period when we went and was quiet most of the time considering.

Didn't have problems getting a shower - I wouldn't say modern, but the facilities were clean enough and there is a nice family bathroom.

You can choose your pitch. On pitch 76 in the Riverside area we got hit by footballs a few times as it was adjacent to the play park. We'd probably camp in the Walled Garden or Meadows Area if we went again as we preferred the pitch layout and they seemed quieter areas and not quite in the middle of it all (meadows is on a slope though). Village green appeared to be the liveliest camping area - I guess it could have been different another week.

We are not great fans of large campsites but would visit this one again since there is so much to do for kids.

We're staying at Trewan Hall in Cornwall later in the year because of its activities and pool. Never been before but it has good reviews.

Hi,

We normally go to Kelling Heath and love it, didn't like Sandy Balls quite a much was too busy when we went. I have looked at Whitemead myself and really like the book of it, but there doesn't seem to be many tent pitches like you say. A couple of years ago we went to the IOW and stayed at NinhamNinham, although its not as all singing and dancing we really liked it and children were just either side of 11 years. We stayed at the field near the swimming pool and further away from reception - they were the cleanest and nicest bathrooms I have ever had.

2015 sites booked so far: Cotswold Farm Park, Ninham IOW, still some more to book

Hello.

Yes that's the one which I think is the nearest to the tent field. They used to allow tents on the grass caravan pitches however this year tents are only allowed in the tent field. This is because they have gravelled all the remaining pitches as the site is open all year.

We go every year and are booked in again for October half term. We go with our caravan but use the shower facilities on site as the van shower is rather cramped.

If you want any other help just reply here as I check back from time to time.
