Surprised you've not had loads of ideas. Touring or based in one central location? How long - a weekend, a fortnight? Children? Dog?
If touring, potter up round the coast via Dunbar & North Berwick (East Lothian is the place to golf, if you do that) and Haddington, as far as Edinburgh, then go back roughly along the route of the newly reopened Waverley train line to see the towns associated with the various Border Ridings - they're all different, all worth a morning or afternoon. (Selkirk, Melrose, Jedburgh, Kelso etc). Abbeys everywhere - if you're in English Heritage, you'll get in free (or half price if it's your first year). Or join Historic Scotland up here. Edinburgh Castle alone makes it worth being a member. It'll then be half price entry in England for the first year.
So - your question was a wee bit too open ended, tell us what you enjoy doing & I'm sure there'll be lots more ideas.
