While doing some research for this years summer camping trip I came across this interesting little campsite in Norfolk

Canal Camping, Dilham, Norfolk

Normally when I search for a campsite there are plenty of sites with reviews wether good or bad but for this campsite I can't find anything anywhere which makes me immediately suspicious. Does anyone on here have any experience of this site?

Maybe it's a relatively new site? It looks like quite a nice little site so I wouldn't let the fact that there's no reviews put you off. I go to Norfolk every year and would have considered it as an alternative to where I normally stay until I saw the charge for dogs, which I think is excessive.

Thank you Trailio.

My wife brought up the idea of having a holiday in the Norfolk Broads area this evening.

I looked up the (Tents only) site which is in Dilham, and it looks jolly nice.

Our tent, car, and the two of us at £20/night total, includes toilets and showers, covered washing up area, campfire pits (wood available to buy), and a kayak/canoe launch area into the canal, (if you don't own them, you can rent them) sounds like utopia.

Kind regards James

A link from their website takes you to their twitter page, which shows they joined (twitter) in Jan 2017, so quite possibly a new site, as Tigermouse suggests?

Found a few links giving it a mention, but no sign of any actual customer reviews.

Yes David.

No visit to the Norfolk Broads is complete without getting out onto the waterways that make the place so famous. Woven together with meandering rivers and snaking streams, the broads create an interconnected watery wonderland. And it’s campsites like Canal Camping that really make the most of this natural treasure. Why pitch anywhere else when, here, you can pop your tent right down by the riverside and slip your canoe or kayak straight into the water?

Yes, Canal Camping is a brand new site that has only opened in the last few weeks. It is, however, run by the same people that own Hickling Campsite and is of a similar style. Hickling has been open for longer, so reviews of that one may give you an idea, if you're keen to ensure you've read the opinions of others first.

I think we will give it a go

Yes, the North Walsham and Dilham Canal, navigable for non-powered boats only from Wayford Bridge on the A159 up to Honing.

The North Walsham and Dilham canal is quite wild and overgrown in places, and some sections may require you to carry your boat into deeper clearer waters. It is in no way maintained to the standards you would expect of most of the navigable waterways and canals around the uk.
You may be better hiring a Canoe from the boatyard at Wayford Bridge and paddling along the quiet pretty waterway in the direction of Barton broad, or launching your own craft for a small fee from the area around the Wayford bridge Hotel.

I have navigated the left hand fork of the river after the Bridge in a Dayboat with a shallow draft and a small outboard. In the height of summer the water is no more than 0.5 mtr deep in places, with about a metre deep in some spots with a fair amount of weed, but is cristal clear.
At the head of navigation there is a small mooring with a grassy picnic spot, but larger craft would struggle to turn as the waterway narrows down and becomes un navigable as you aproach the old bridge.

I agree, it looks a great place to stay. if I read the pricing information correctly, isn’t it £5 for the whole stay not per night? If so a bit on the dear side for stays of one/two nights but cheap for longer stays

You won’t be disappointed, we loved the place last year. Virtually had the place to ourselves I guess because it had only been open for a few weeks but the site was perfect. Very basic facilities, toilets, showers and washing up but all very clean but that’s what we like. lAlso met the owners and they were lovely. They may have done more to the place since last summer and we’re thinking about heading back in July so would be interested to hear your comments

Hmmm....I've just checked and it seems they may have re-written the wording on the website regarding pet prices since I looked last year as I'm sure it didn't say 'for the duration of their stay' - if it had done then I wouldn't have said it was excessive but the wording definitely gave me the impression that it was per night. I might reconsider going there sometime in the future though if their dog prices are for the duration - on a stay of ten nights it would certainly work out cheap for two dogs.

Hiya, hopefully you will review the site on here if you stay there as I note you haven't made any reviews for years, but expect others to.
