We're regular visitors to the Lake District but I'm struggling for options for somewhere new. Unfortunately it'll be during the school holidays so I'm not expecting utter quiet but a bit of peace would be nice.

To avoid duplication, we've camped already at (and liked mostly):
Bayesbrown Farm
NT Langdale
Stonethwaite Farm
Burns Farm

I'm looking for somewhere this year - preferably in the general Keswick area - that you can step out of the door and be walking straight from the campsite. Best case scenario would be facilities like Burns Farm (EHU, good facilities) but I'm happy to rough it in exchange for being further from main roads - as long as (paid or otherwise) the showers are half decent.

I've spent hours looking around, the places that I've short listed so far are Syke Farm in Buttermere and Wasdale NT as being in the right neck of the woods. Gillside Farm also a possibility, as is Kestrel Lodge but I'd rather have the fells south of Keswick on my doorstep if at all possible.

Any views on the short list, and anywhere else I've not considered?

Hi.

If you're considering Wasdale then have a look at Eskdale. There is Fisher ground but best of the lot is Eskdale campsite in Boot. It has been part of the Camping and caravan club for a good few years but this year I've noticed that it's independent again.

It's facilities are fantastic. Fabulous shower block and electric hook up. It has a good little shop and there's another small shop a few miles away but other than that you really need to be prepared. It's a tiny village so nothing like Keswick or Ambleside. You have walks in every direction from river to Scafell. Easily a weeks worth of different hikes. Oh and there are 3 pubs within walking distance serving good food.

I've not stayed there for a few years. It had been very busy during holidays the last few times I did. Don't let that out you off though. We're planning to stop there again for a week in August.

Another one to consider although it's facilities are rather more sparse is Turner Hall Farm at Seathwaite. No shop but a good pub and straight up to Coniston Old Man.

Enjoy

By the way you can also camp at a lot of the YHAs in the area. Have a look at their website.

To answer your specific question although I've never stayed at the NT campsite at Wasdale I have had a look round and it's very like the one at Langale. There is also a little camping field at the pub although I don't think you can book.

Wallace Lane Farm is really nice but probably too far NW for you.

I would also highly recommend the Eskdale site in boot. Used to be CCC, until this year, but isn't anymore. We went in 2013 and is a lovely quiet location and fab site
