Yorkshire, God's own country.
Skipton is a great place to start.
The Dales way passes through some lovely countryside, following the river. Bolton Abbey is a must (The Strid, Valley of Desolation), follow the river north to Appletreewick, onto Burnsall and Grassington.

We're from Bradford West Yorkshire and have already been to virtually everywhere mentioned. My advice would be somw here between Skipton and Harrogate (A58) for Dales and Yorkshire westerly, then somewhere like Pickering for NY moors, east coast and York. We used to go to the Black Bull at Pickering, loads to see and do round there. Lovely public outdoor pool at Helmsley, it's reet nice....lol
------------- I went to the top of the mountain...and looked over the other side!
FIONA..... If you want an actual campsite for Sheffield.
We stayed at Fox Hagg farm for a night a few weeks ago. It gets mixed reviews but it was fine. It's behind some a farmhouse with some scruffy statics/season caravans. However behind them is a camping field looking out over countryside. Toilets old but clean and fine.
5 mile walk via footpaths into Sheffield centre and £7 back uphill in a taxi at 11 pm.
May not be what you want. But maybe useful.
