Serious thinking of buying a twin axle but have been warned that some camp sites will not take them. Are there many that won't? Is this a real problem? Thanks

Some sites can't even accommodate a single axle. Its not so much the double axle its the shipping length. Having said that twin axles are usually longer so there might occasionally be a problem. If there are pitch limitations these are made clear by the site in their advertisements web etc. There may also be times when access for larger units to a site may be difficult (or impossible) again such difficulties are made clear on websites before booking. If you aren't sure its always worth a phone call to the site.
We had a 6 birth single axle before and never had a problem with any of the sites we wanted to go to. Not had a caravan for 8 years, but the dealer warned us about the sites. So hopefully the extra length won't be an issue then. Thanks
The main reason why some sites don't accept twin axle caravans is because they churn up wet grass turning it into sloppy mud which not only doesn't look good but extra work for the landowner to repair. I have spoken to many site owners and they all come up with the same answer that's why many have invested in hard standings. Although it's a costly investment it means they don't have to refuse twin axle caravans so it still brings in the cash.
If you look for campsites with hard standings you shouldn't have much of a problem providing they can accommodate the shipping length.

Hi
To be honest i have found it to be ok as Jaqugra
Never had a problem, but as said do your homework ring and ask before you book or go esp to a cl, cs as they may have restrictions.
Hi we have had a tag axle Autotrail Cheyenne 840S for the last three years without problems. We also tow a small 4 door car on the back, this makes it longer but still we have not had any problems, just do your homework prior to booking. The best advice I can give you is ask the site how close the bus stop is to the site. If a bus can get their I'm sure you can.
Cheers Phill.

We had a twin axle and had no real problems but I always did my homework. Still do for the single axle as with the estate car, we are longer than the twin and disco!
I always let the site know how long we are and I check reviews on here. Anyone who has a problem getting on /off or pitching tend to mention that in the review. I know, I always do.
