Has anyone stayed here? looking at possible alternatives to Lettershaws. There are 32 very mixed reviews on the CAMC website, and from them I gather that access may be a problem (falling down buildings and swallows in the loos are not!)
As we have a large outfit I need to be sure that we can get on the site ok. Or would Lettershaws be better?

There are no issues at Lettershaws apart from the fact it is in the back of beyond (valley), the loo is an old portacabin thing (but works). Bad TV reception, depending on how large a hoolie is blowing down the valley, dog has to be kept on a lead, when really you are parked in a huge field.
Access though is ok the vast majority of reviews for the place are old. Certainly no falling down buildings, if it is for an overnight stop it is more than adequate though, possibly even for a weekend but that is it (we do weekends there). Cheap and cheerful.
Your Collierhall looks a treat. Certainly looks much better than Lettershaws.
Think I will be renewing my membership next year.
Picked this up from the CC website:
Cracking little place, pitches based in a field at the back of the farm. Left to you own devices with no hassle. You get what you pay for and that's the deal ...
Cracking little place, pitches based in a field at the back of the farm. Left to you own devices with no hassle. You get what you pay for and that's the deal here. Two nights for £24, saved half my membership in one weekend. Thanks Barry and the lady who welcomed us
Arrived on site mid afternoon with 16ft caravan. Young man working nearby allowed us to pick whichever spot suited our needs. Spoilt for choice. The local shop within a few minutes walk stocked everything we wanted and, surprisingly, the prices were low. Pity the pub was shut and wanting new tenants, but still you can't have everything. Views spectacular. Only thing missing on site was a mop and bucket in the shower/toilet room, but I'm sure that has been put right by now. I have paid twice this price for less facilities. Well worth a visit. We only stayed for the one night, that won't happen again, must stay longer.
Thanks, I have read all the reviews and would really prefer to stay at Collierhall, but we have a long (8m) caravan and big 4x4, I really need to know if access is a problem. Other than that, there is a shop nearby and it's quite near New Lanark and the Falls of Clyde which I want to visit. (And nearer the M74).

Collierhall seems to be pretty much at Rigside, looking at my trusty OS map (sheet 71). It's open cast coal mining country, but the workings come & go and it's rural otherwise; I've got a working sketch of it before the massive Broken Cross site was developed, but it's largely been restored now. Douglas Water village down in the valley by the Douglas Water (river) has less to it than Abington, as it has no passing trade. They're C-roads down into the valley off the A70 at Rigside & a bit narrow & bendy, but I don't think you'll be on those to get to your site.
New Lanark & Falls of Clyde - well worth a visit! Check the dates for when Scottish Hydro opens the dams as the many huge waterfalls are astounding then, rather than just beautiful. Enjoyable walks up through the woodland with some steps & steep sections, well worth donning boots for. Big Tesco in Lanark town if you need to stock up.
Thanks Fiona, yes, it appears to be near Rigside but under Douglas Water in the CAMC book. I do have their number, not going until June next year anyway. I suppose Douglas Water sounds prettier.
