Club pitches are 7m x5m. I have been on commercial sites with 5th wheels on,but you will probably have to get prior arrangement with owners and pay for more than one pitch as you would need two pitches back to back.

I think some sites will and some won't. I've certainly seen some on some sites but mostly will be very few pitches big enough to take them. Presumably you need parking for the truck as well.

What happens if your tow vehicle breaks down, can you get a 5th wheel van recovered?

That is a good point Bernie47. I love pick up trucks and often think a 5th wheeler a good idea, but can they be easily moved without an adapted vehicle.........Like a caravan.

I've seen most 5th wheels on show grounds outdoor events etc where they have plenty of space to manoeuvre, also grass pitches on some camp sites.

Bad enough reversing a caravan on some sites... not like you can unhitch and engage a motor mover.

Yes they fit on virtually all pitches, you dimensions of 8ft by 30ft makes them no bigger than a large twin axle and certainly smaller than a large van with awning.
The hitch is on the middle of the bed, in front of the rear wheels of the tug, so maneuvering is far easier than a large caravan.
I love the concept but have not taken the plunge.
Note that the UK built ones are generally more compact than the US or Aussy ones.
Stayed on a site in wales where a chap was towing a 40ft one with a RAM 3500. The biggest rig I have ever seen.

We saw one on the Sandringham C&CC site in July. Not a massive one, but a reasonable size. I'd love one, but way out of my price range.
