Just had an unusual call from Sandy Balls campsite who enquired that due to the amount of water on site and also the extra rain predicted were we looking to move our booking for tommorrow night
They are worried about getting us onto site !!

Anyone down there know how wet the caravan pitches are currently as we're looking to stagger our arrival now until Saturday

I don't think they would have problems there most pitches are hardstanding others are flat and well drained.
I have heard that they are closing all touring pitches this year and will stop taking them

Our pitch last year was very wet had to tread carefully to get to tap and electric our pitch was about 12 pitches down from dog field and that was September time

It could soon be academic at Sandy Balls as I understand they have a planning application to convert the site to lodges only in the near future with no touring.

Have you phoned the campsite back to check that it was a genuine call...sounds a bit odd to me...or perhaps they have overbooked.

I have never been to Sandy Balls but I have always understood that most of their pitches are hardstanding or all weather pitches. I don't know why there should be a problem unless the site is flooded.

We were on one their motor home pitches last year when it had been wet and it was very muddy. The centre hardstanding area wasn’t too bad but we had to drive over the surrounding grass to get onto it and even being careful left some pretty deep ruts. We were quite worried about getting off.

Having been trying to book myself for the coming weekend, a last minute decision, I know some other sites in the area are also worried about the state of their pitches and are refusing bookings so I think it is probably genuine.

I would suggest giving Sandy Balls a ring to discuss your options.

Just text a mate for a favour.
And said which site you going to, he did not mention site but said, they had rang him to cancel due to site being so wet.
So maybe more than one site doing the same this BH.
That is a shame for those that have booked.

But long term, maybe the right move for the site.

We have just come home from Malvern Hills CMC site,they are only using hardstandings because the grass is too wet.
There was some snow around on the roadsides in the hills when we arrived.
The weather has been pretty awful and more rain forecast.
One of the wardens tood me that if the grass got churned up now it will take all season to recover.

My garden grass has only just started to grow, normally the first cut is in March
Its been a winter.
