Hi , we are hoping to visit the lake District in July with our touring caravan. Any recommendations for easy to get to sites for adults and teenage son which also excepts dogs. Would prefer a site that doesn't pack you in like sardines but has good facilities in a location close to a lake with good walks and bike rides. We are also looking at loch Lomond and Pembrokeshire at later date with the same requirements.Alot to ask I know but any recommendations gratefully received.

We enjoyed our recent stay at Church Stile campsite in Nether Wasdale. Nicely layed out site, broken down into small areas, dog friendly, stunning countryside, lots of walking of all standards, award winning Woodalls Cumberland sausage, dog friendly pubs (one with own brewery); a lot on offer in the area.

I'm guessing it will be busier in July than in April though!

EDIT -
Damn; just realised that they don't take touring caravans. Sorry.

Hill of oaks is right on Windermere , touring area mid site, nice surrounds, good for dogs too, excellent facilities. Pitch sizes really good, water and electric at pitch.

Hi,
Bowness C&CC site on Windermere is a nice site close to
shops resteraunts etc, near the ferry.
Loch Lomond ,we have stayed at Balloch, Lomonds Woods site.Close to a shopping Mall but also the shore cycleways.
Also a bird of prey centre within walking distance.
We enjoyed our stays at both these sites.
Hope you have a great trip.
Regards,
Greg

The camping and caravaning club site in Keswick might suit you. Very close to the town, loads to do in the area and direct access to the lake for launching canoes etc.

Re Loch Lomond - I stayed at the Balloch site in our old campervan on 2 or 3 occasions a few years ago; felt a bit 'hemmed in', but otherwise a good site.

Re Loch Lomond - have a look at the Site Search map, as there aren't that many sites. And read a few reviews.
Lomond Woods is not in sight of the loch, which I find disappointing. But you can get a train into Glasgow from Balloch. Owned by a chain.
Luss C&CC will give you views, easy accessibility on the west shore, pretty Luss village (and Highland Games if you pick the right time to visit) but road noise from the busy A82.
Two on the east side are less accessible - hilly, bendy, steep roads on that side (at the same time at Balmaha) but you get peace & quiet, the adjacent West Highland Way, water lapping up to your pitch, boat launching. They are Milarrochy Bay C&CC (an open sloping site) and nearby Cashel 'Camping in the Forest' site (more shady amongst trees).
There is at least one CL on the east side, but as we're not CC members, I can't speak for it.
I'm not wanting to open a debate about midges, as there are plenty of threads about them, but they are particularly fierce at Loch Lomond so go prepared. And if you have a dog, pack a Tick Hook as the dog is guaranteed to get at least one due to the number of deer. You might too, so use the buddy system (check each other).

Thanks that helps. Unfortunately it sounds like we might struggle with our large tourer if we wanted to get to the more scenic sites. We aren't in cc or anything. Might have to think again.

Been to several sites with our caravan near Keswick.    Not sure what you mean by “facilities” as the ones I have visited don’t have bars etc. If it’s just good toilets they all have that. Access to Keswick is very easy via a66 and have had no problems. Castlerigg hall has fantastic views of the lake from many pitches. Scott gate park is good too and can walk to a pub. These are reasonably large sites. Two smaller sites we have stayed at are threlkeld hall and Troutbeck caravan and camping park at Moor end.   All these sites have scenic views. Threlkeld hall toilets are very clean etc, but only 1 sower/toilet per sex. There is s pub to walk to.   Troutbeck is a great little site and we’ve stayed there twice. For teenagers, internet wifi might be “needed”. I think only threlkeld doesn’t have this.   Take a look at these sites I’m sure one of them you would like. All dog friendly.

There are lovely looking tourer sites at Pooley Bridge on Ullswater. Beautiful location, but I haven’t stayed on any.

Yes Pooley Bridge is easy to get to; just a few miles from the M6, but it is a lovely location; Ullswater is stunning.
