There's nowhere particularly close. The tram can get you closeish, or there's a train station I believe, trains from Piccadilly station. So, you could stay at Burrs in Bury and go on the tram, but I'm not sure how late they would run.
Or stay at Hollingworth Lake and get a train into Manchester Victoria, again, not sure how late they run. Or a tram from Milnrow. The Piethorn Valley site looks suitable too.
