Just looked at that topic and I wonder how many eyes have just popped!!!
I was widowed earlier this year and had thought about selling the caravan, then chose not to. I love the caravan holidays and we split the tasks, including driving so I am hardly a novice. However, I am no fool, and do not want to turn up somewhere only to find I had forgotten something vital etc. Are there sites who might, for a charge, set the van/awning up?

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Have you thought about a site that offers store and pitch, ie. stores the caravan and then pitches it when you want to use it? If you are a bit uncertain, it might just settle the nerves.
I don't know if any of these sites would put your awning up.
First, I'd say good luck to you and I hope you manage to continue having the sort of holidays you have enjoyed with your husband in the past. Or you might choose to do something different and go for the 'store and pitch' option which ties you to one place, but which you might find more reassuring in the early days of this new phase in your life. An exhaustive checklist of what you need to take with you, and 'set up and pack up' list would be a good start. If you look at the 'camp site search' section you might find some sites in an area that would appeal to you, and you could contact them to see if they'd do setting up.

After struggling with a five berth tunnel tent alone I went tent shopping and got me a three berth that I can cope with alone. (For initial set up trip I've an if all else fails justIncase bothy)
I'll admit now that I bought another three berth of a different layout because trips are different.

If you are on your own, will you need an awning? We keep a pop up tent in the caravan that we use for storing things outside when we are in the ‘van, The advantage of this is that you can store it in the toilet, just throw it outside when needed and then put it in the van without folding it all the way down (which is the hardest bit!) when you have finished.

I am a fool and seem to turn up having forgotten something on every single trip. But there aren't many things you take in a caravan that aren't replaceable in supermarkets or failing that, camping accessory shops. Don't worry about it
You don't say what size awning you have, or intend to buy but have you thought about an inflatable porch awning? I can erect ours on my own. That said, probably the best thing to do is phone the site to book and explain that you're travelling alone and that you might need help. If one site owner isn't willing to offer to help you there's bound to be another one that will. Enjoy!
