Trying out camping with basic equipment and novices. 2 or 3 middle aged adults. We would like to be within easy walking distance of tent at night from a club house or pub. Clean toilets/showers.

We are travelling from Manchester so North Wales coast or the Lakes or any nice place to try for a couple of nights? Conscious it is school holidays so one that might have availability at this time of year?

Any ideas much appreciated.
Thanks
Colin

I anticipate that thinking you can get a pitch in the Lake District in early August this year at a weekend soon near a pub might be a tad optimistic. But I'll be delighted to be proved wrong!
Can't recommend anywhere because we weren't successful in a similar quest. Hope you get somewhere good.

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

:-) Thanks Fiona. Just a nice location within a couple of hours drive of Manchester. Considering N. Wales or Anglesey as lots of sites just finding the right one to try out. If it is a disaster we can at least retreat to a pub and pack up in the morning!!

There are two camping club sites next to Keswick. There is also a camping club site at Moffat,. All of these are close to the town and pubs etc. I am at Moffat now and it is probably less that 5 minutes walk to a pub and less than 2 miles from the M74 so easy to get to from Manchester.

-------------
We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

I'd suggest checking out some of the North Wales (for example) sites listed on the Late Availablity pages?

...or if it's not too far, you could try
Shell Island. It isn't on the above list and they advise advance booking (on line via their website) for summer holiday weekends. Pub (and shops etc) on site. Site accessed from tidal causeway which should be open all day this coming weekend.

Station camping at Carrog about 5 miles outside Llangollen. You can get the steam train into Llangollen in the day. And the wild grouse is 5 mins walk from the site. Dose good food. Also the site is level nice and clean. With good toilets.

Moffat will need booking well ahead & at this time of year, C&CC won't take single night bookings (if OP wants that). We've very often not got in there for those reasons (busy + 2 nights) and have enjoyed Hoddom Castle instead - further south, almost as close to the M74, on site bar, on site golf, better dog walk.
But I think both of these are too far to fit OP's brief.
