Trying to book a last minute camp for this weekend, and rather than take huge tent we're going to try out two small (2 man pop up type) tents. However when ringing round some sites want to charge for 2 pitches, despite the two tents taking up far less room than the one large! Is this standard?? I'm shocked!
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
I'd say it was as standard as standard gets, in the UK. (French sites don't seem to have such hang-ups!)
Obviously, each site is different, and always worth giving them a call, but it sounds like you're already doing that.
I'm sure eventually, you'll get a positive response, but how long/how may calls it takes is anyone's guess.
If you add your approx. location to your profile and/or tell us what area you are looking at, someone on here may know a suitable site in said location?
Units are supposed to be 6 metres apart for safety, so that one tent doesn't go up in flames when the next door one sets itself alight burning the bacon. But we've all seen pup tents right up behind the old campervan so maybe if you say one of the two will only be used for sleeping, and that privacy isn't an issue, they'd let 2 onto one pitch.
I saw a bunch of (kayaking) folk in a minibus who were cooking / eating communally & sleeping separately, but close together, on a grass area that wasn't specifically laid out in pitches. That freeform kind of site might suit. That one was at Inver Mill, Dunkeld - probably too far for you.
