Can anyone recommend a smallish quiet campsite with either a river running through that can be utilised for canoeing and swimming or a site near a river for canoeing/swimming please?
Location wise thinking Shropshire, Worcester, Herefordshire or Wales, but open to suggestions, within 2/3 hours drive from Stafford
Dogs must be allowed
Thanks

There's a site in Symonds Yat (River Wye at Gloucestershire) that has kayaking from the site, although the reviews aren't brilliant. Several other sites close by if you can live with being a bit further from the river.
cotton arms wrenbury, on the canal and can be used with a canoe in it as we have done several times now, and great food in the pub! canal path for dog walks
Not been yet ourselves, but Morris leisure site is right in Llanberis, both swimming and kayaking allowed on the lake - oops no good to you as only open to tourers. But, Llys Derwen accepts tents and not too far away 3 miles.
Lake is good for boating, we have been quite a few times now with our inflatable canoe.

Lucksall Caravan site in Hereford is on the banks of the Wye, you can launch your canoe from their pontoon (they also do canoe hire from the site).
A little further away but possibly within your reach is the former CC site at Houghton Mill in Cambridgeshire. Right next to the river and you can launch/swim from the site. Also in a cracking little village with good pubs.
Tudor farm caravan park near the Slimbridge wildfowl trusty. The Sharpness Canal runs past the site. Not sure if you can canoe/kayak but should be possible.
Boat station is next to the campsite.

Sorry - Symonds Yat is in Herefordshire. We have recently moved to Northants from the Ross on Wye area and one of our neighbours owned a pub in Symonds Yat (I assume he still does!).

Bridge House Campsite Lechlade on Thames. Just a field away from the Thames where you can stick a canoe in the water. I have seen people swimming there but The Thames isn't the safest of rivers for swimming. I believe David Walliams commenced his marathon Thames swim from that location. Take a look at their website and the reviews. It is one of my favourite sites.
