Hi. Considering doing first trip to a campsite this week, my kids are not school going yet. But night time temperatures are quite low the last few nights. I have the polycotton tent, mattresses, sleeping bags etc. Am I mad to consider it. Some relatives advising me to forget it and go to a hotel but I'm reluctant to change plans !
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Sites stay open when they get customers. All of them are still open in September. You'll be fine.
I've tented in snow - just be prepared: plenty of threads via the Search tab, but bedrocks (warm feet) are a good start.

Yes, some people just don't "get" camping! We've had comments (from a friend who's known us for decades and who I'd presumed was a sympathiser) like "You've been camping?! Why?! You could have had a Travelodge for £XX!"
Are you mad to consider it? Possibly, but you're in good company on here.
If you can have hook-up (evening light, heat, hot water bottles etc) and can keep warm at night it shouldn't be a problem. Weather's supposed to be improving during the week. Give it a whirl!

Early September is a wonderful time to camp: quieter sites, lovely weather, not too hot, long evenings, etc etc and no frost. We camp year round now (polycotton tent + EHU) but my first proper trip with my daughter was October to November when she was 5. We had pretty rubbish gear back then but it was still fab. Just don’t forget the Calpol.
I used to camp all year round but now draw the line when the first frosts arrive, which is normally in November. I generally hesitate when night time temperatures fall below 10c but as stated, September, October, and sometimes November can be pretty warm and the best time of year to go camping.
The kids should all be back at school next week, campsite prices should fall, and I am gearing up for a few trips before the first frosts.
