My OH and I have deicded to undertake a challenge to camp out once a month (in a tent) for a full year. I have sites booked for Oct and Nov but I am struggling to get anywhere to accept us in December, even the sites that state they are open all year have refused me as soon as I mention a tent.
The tent is smallish (3 man) and it is just myself, husband and well behaved springer spaniel - who would be on lead.
Ideally I am wanting somewhere near a pub that does food (and allows dogs), within about an hour or so of Derby (due to not wanting to pitch in the dark) and I would really like an EHU (for chargers, kettle)
Can anyone recommend anywhere please? We are trying to find different places each month and don't want to camp in the garden!
thanks

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
It's certainly frustrating finding a good grass pitch Dec - Feb. I tend to email a dozen or so at a time. Watch out for sites which take your booking and then expect you to pitch on a hardstanding.
We often end up using Camping and Caravanning Club sites because their search facility only turns up results where there are actual pitches for the dates you choose. Also, their facilities are reliable and well suited to off season camping. Looks as though Conkers or Teversal C&CC sites will take you.
Beechcroft Farm nr Buxton let us pitch on their hardstanding pitches a few times, 3 or 4 years back. Just take extra groundsheets for underneath. It's not gravel, more like that compressed tarmac stuff. Only bent one hardground peg!
Top drawer heated shower block was a massive bonus!
December '12...
February '13 (Day 1)...
and next morning...
Packhorse Farm nr Matlock is grass pitch and open all year round...
and if you get chance to double your distance (bang on 2 hours), Home Farm between Ludlow and Leominster is also on all grass, and allows tents all year round...
EDIT:
All above were on EHU!

Always tents pitched at Delamere forest c&cc site when we go early december, last year we had 4" of snow and the die hards were still out in their tents weighed down with snow. It's a good site for long forest walks, nearby train station into Chester, cafe at train station.
I suppose Essex is a bit far for you, but we have booked at Staines Farm, a small reasonably priced independent site not far from Thaxted, for New Year week. £16 for us in a caravan with ehu, don't know if tents are cheaper. Has showers which cost £1 I think.
