Have seen some footage of Pembrokeshire on TV, and friends that rent cottages there say it is lovely for a holiday.
Is it good for caravaners? We'd be looking for a CL or not too large site, but with decent showers etc and either a bar or a pub within walking distance.
Are there any sites with sea views or direct beach access?
Any comments on the weather? Wondering about a longer UK break next year as well as/instead of Fraance, but knowing our luck it will be the wettest summer on record!

I could give a reply on this that's long enough to fill a book, but the short answer is: yes, it's lovely and hundreds of people visit it in caravans every year.
There are literally hundreds of campsites across the county ranging from CLs to luxury holiday parks. Have you tried using the map search facility on this site?
If you're looking for sea views then this site near St Davids takes some beating (even though it's not small). There's also direct access to a beach from the car park adjacent the site entrance. It's also owned by a friend of our family (so I may be a tiny bit biased)! https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=2064
As for the weather, well it's in the UK so I'm not sure anyone can say anything that you haven't already said. Generally the influence of the North Atlantic Drift means that winters are slightly milder and summers slightly cooler than in central or south-east England, but you will get variations on that!

Its really beautiful there and its true just like Cornwall without the crowds have a look at Fishguard Bay caravan park, its on the cliff edge about as close to the sea as you can get

Pembrokeshire is gorgeous! So many lovely places to visit, you'll be spoilt for choice. Fishguard Bay resort mentioned above is in a stunning location - no direct access to beach, as it's on a clifftop, but views are very fine. A beautiful bay with pub is a short drive away or 40 mins walk along the coastal path, and a short drive the other way through Fishguard is Goodwick beach with cafe, shop etc. Tenby is full of character, Newgale has a massive long beach with a campsite just over the road, to name but two.
We stayed at Freshwater East Caravan club site which is rather large but it takes about 5 minutes to walk to beach and there is a clubhouse of some sort at the neighboring holiday park. Pendine sands also worth a visit - check out if there is anything on when you go. We were fortunate enough to see vintage hot rods racing on the beach in the summer.

At the other end of the scale, Wynd Hill campsite and holiday cottages is where we end up a lot. Great views and very reasonably priced for the area. It has about 10 pitches with hookup and a basic but spotless shower block.
It's 10 minutes walk into Manorbrier, which has a couple of lovely pubs, village shop and post office, castle and beach. It's about 15 minutes drive from Tenby and Pembroke.
Loads to do in the area from CADW to Oakwood - whatever your idea of fun is.
Although still basic (and not the most level of pitches) Meadow Farm in Tenby is a nice size (30ish pitches) with spectacular views over Tenby Harbour and over to Caldy Island. Again, 5 minutes walk to the beach; 10 minutes to the town centre.
We stayed at Caerfai Bay this year for several days and loved it. The only problem is if the weather is bad as the site is very exposed. Also, if you have a dog, there are restrictions in high season that you should be aware of.
There are a lot of other sites though. Conifers Pentraeth at Newport just up the coast from Fishguard is also great although there's no direct access to the beach from the site.
