Hi folks. Last year we upgraded from tent to caravan (after 20 years of camping) and haven't looked back. We didn't buy a new car at the time so stayed fairly local (didn't want to put too much strain on the old car) but now have a wonderful new tow car and want to travel further afield. We are looking for a campsite in either North Devon, South Devon/Dorset borders, Dorset, Hampshire or West Sussex on the coast but that also has statics to rent as my 70 year old Mum likes to come with us. We will also have our teenage daughter and her friend and they like a pool. We would like a fully serviced pitch and lastly, we don't like big busy commercial sites (with evening entertainment, etc). So see what I mean about the holy grail!!!! Am I mad thinking such a place exists? The closest we've got in all our searches is Cofton Holidays but even they seem a bit too big and busy for us. Any recommendations or advice would really be appreciated. Thanks so much!

There are a few sites which have private pools for hire 0ff the to of my head, maybe Gunvenna, North Cormwall, but otherwise I should think you are stuck with the big commercial Haven type sites.

Highlands End Holiday Park near West Bay in Dorset might fit the bill. It does have a bar and restaurant but certainly when I was there a couple of years ago it was pretty quiet and the bar is well away from the touring area. It seems to have everything but I wouldn't call it a big commercial site although I didn't go there in the height of the season. I can certainly recommend the food in the bar/restaurant.

Thanks Bob61 - that was one of our shortlisted sites, good to know that it gets a nod!

Another one is Ulwell Cottage caravan park just west of Swanage. Check out their website for full details.

There's no pool unfortunately but Seadown in Charmouth is nice and you can walk to the beach from the site in about 10 mins. No club or entertainment, statics to hire and the touring prices are quite reasonable, even in peak season.

Maybe a rarity in southern Britain but if you care to take a step across the channel you'll find thousands of sites that tick each and every box that you list
