For Feb Half Term - touring with 6yr old, so walking distance of pub (oh, sorry, that's for us!), and I heard one lake has a paddle steamer boat ride? We would bring her bike. Playground is a plus. Did I mention a pub?

Coniston Park Coppice CAMC site is just outside Coniston, has a small play area and is usually well stocked with kids for yours to play with. Boat rides available on the lake and some good cycling nearby too. Site is a short walk/ride from Coniston. The downside is that it is one of the few that are open so is booked up (I just checked), however this happened to me at New Year a few years back. I gave them a ring and booked as much as I could, then kept checking the website and calling them to see if they had cancellations. It took a bit of patience but I managed to book a full week in the end.

Ravenglass CCC site is a lovely site and ideal for the the West coast of Cumbria and the Western Lakes, a much quieter part of the Lake District. The nearest lakes are Wastwater and Ennerdale Water. There is a play area 2 mins walk from the site, and 3 pubs and a couple of tearooms within 5 mins walk! Although not in walking distance of a lake (btw. the boats on the lakes are described as "steamers" but they are not paddle steamers) it is right next to the sea/estuary where 3 rivers combine and there are proper sandy beaches about 10 mins away by car. The other main attraction 2 minutes walk from the site is La'al Ratty (aka The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway), the narrow gauge steam (mostly) railway that runs for 7 miles between Ravenglass and Dalegarth station.
This part of the Lakes takes a little more effort to get to but is definitely worth it!
