Can't speak for campsites, as when I stayed it was in a guest house with my father. I don't think the island is very camping-friendly, especially not for larger outfits, due to the roads. The roads can be a bit narrow in places, edged with very unforgiving granite walls, but there's a good bus service round the island to all the main places which takes the stress out of travelling around once you've set up. However, the beaches are indeed gorgeous and varied, most with cafes and toilets nearby. Plenty to see; castles, living history farm at Hamptonne(sp?), good museum in St. Helier with truly remarkable Occupation tapestry (well, cross stitch), Durrell wildlife park, war tunnels etc etc. I've visited twice and there is still plenty that I haven't seen. Well worth a visit, if you can find somewhere to camp!

Jersey has some very specific rules about taking a holiday in a caravan, motorhome, campervan, folding camper or trailer tent. Worth having a read before booking a ferry.

we stayed on the Rozel campsite with our motorbike and tent . I think you are restricted to just the two journeys to and from the ferry terminal to the campsite ,if you have a caravan ,mhome or tt.
the journey on the ferry from poole was horrendous, most people were sick, we were on the fastcat or vomit comet.
the island itself is very nice and quaint, we were there when the flower festival was on and it made our holiday

We went to Jersey last year and loved the island. There's a lot to visit and do. There are nice beaches all around the island. However you need to be aware of a few things:
You need to be booked into a campsite before you go. After reading reviews we decided on Rozel campsite and were more than happy with our choice. We visited Beauvelande while we were there and weren't struck on it. Other people may feel differently though.
We were referred to Channel Islands Direct for our ferry booking by Rozel campsite and were quoted a price cheaper than either of the clubs could offer us. We travelled on the catamaran service from Poole. The crossing was smooth and enjoyable. However, you need to be aware that you will most likely have to reverse your folding camper onto the ferry. I have to be honest and say that we would not wish to do this again, although the ferry staff will guide you. We were not told about the reversing at the time of booking, it is in the small print of the confirmation and talking to other caravanners on the campsite many were not aware of this when checking in at the ferry port. For this reason quite a few people switched to the conventional ferry for their return journey.
Hope this is some help. Please ask if you have any more questions.

The ferry crossing to Jersey is from Poole and takes about 4.5 hours. It's fine if the channel is calm but nauseous when it's rough! It's part of the UK and British subjects don't need passports.
As others have said, campsites need to be pre-booked before leaving the UK and you're only allowed to tow on the journeys to and from the site and the ferry port. It's also correct that the ferry loads from the rear only, so you will have to turn round on deck and may need to reverse.
Jersey has an enormous number of B&Bs, hotels and self-catering holiday cottages. I don't know the relative costs but wouldn't be at all surprised if you could find a cottage for not much more than the price of a week's stay on a campsite plus the extra cost of taking your camper on the ferry.
There's easily enough to keep your family occupied for a week or more. Jersey Zoo, the war tunnels and Elizabeth Castle are all must-sees and there are lots of beautiful beaches all round the island.

Rozel campsite have ready erected tents for hire which may be worth considering. We really enjoyed Jersey and wouldn't want to put anyone off from going but I do feel people need to be aware of the reversing issue.
