hi I have had a seasonal caravan pitch for 3 years and the owner has decided to lock us in from 10pm till 8am giving no vehicle access during these times. there is a number for emergencies only for someone to come and unlock them . is this common practice to be locked onsite I have been to other site where a key fob is used but it's just padlocked gate

This is no different to C&CC or CAMC club sites security as usually if you go out in the evening and return after the deadline you have to park your vehicle outside the security gate and collect the vehicle the following morning when the site wardens are operating. Your circumstance is slightly different but the principal is the same so yes, it is common practice in the interest of safety and on site security also probably in guidelines with their insurance policy as well.

yes I'm all for good security just would have preferred a lock that I could have left a deposit for so I could have a key to lock and unlock myself in case of leaving earlier than 8oclock. or even a coded entrance lock

Ours has a sensor on the inside of the gate for people who want to leave early. Its probably a bit of a compromise.

Yes have this too. We can leave car outside the gate the night before if we want to drive somewhere early without caravan.

There is a late arrivals area outside for caravans etc.
