Been a while since we last camped (two week summer 2018 Vendee France - great value), been looking at some dates for a weekend in June as we have the 3 grandchildren. Just a Fri to Monday thing. Comparing various sites and options I'm finding for the same price (as an electric pitch on a basic site) I can rent a mobile home, 3 bedrooms, entertainment passes and swimming pools.
Does anyone else feel prices have been rising over the last few years ?

I feel prices have crept up but sites are offering much better shower/toilet facilities.
I normally pay around £80/100 for 3 nights. Not sure I could get a static for that!

It seems the days of £4 a night pitches are long gone and disappointingly, not many highly priced campsites provide value for money. I have just returned from a highly priced campsite (fortunately shared with a mate so I could just about afford it). It was in a prime location so worth paying a little extra but the toilet facilities were abysmal and if it wasn't for the location you probably wouldn't go there twice.

All I want from a site is EHU, showers, and decent toilets. We prefer grass pitches, and sites that aren't regimented with all the caravans in neat rows. We don't need lavish entertainment and if we want a drink we'll find a pub.

Yes prices are rising, but so are prices generally. We try not to spend more than about £20 a night, and we can usually still find somewhere suitable.

The thing that shocked us most when we returned to caravanning was the change from charging per pitch to charging per person, and all the extras such as charging for dogs, showers etc. This is what is making it expensive, especially for families.

I totally agree, we go away and just want a grass pitch and decent toilet/shower facilities. I also agree about not liking the caravans in a neat row as they start to look like static sites which is what we totally avoid. Camping used to be cheap and all about the great outdoors but these days campsites are trying to turn into holiday parks.

We're away Bank Holiday weekend 4 nights �88, i'm happy with that, week after 8 nights away for �200. A static would've cost us at least double that - and wouldn't have as much room!

What I like to hear from the staff when I get to a site. "Oh just pitch somewhere over there, as long as your lead reaches you're fine." That's my kind of site!
