Am I the only one who thinks that some site owners have lost the plot?
As the Scottish School holidays start soon, I thought I'd have a couple of days away (I'm on my own).
Nice Caravan Club CL, not too far away, however at £20 per night, think I'll give that one a body swerve.
Can get a couple of pints and a Pie for that.

Wonder if it's the Edinburgh effect? Mortonhall is noticeably more expensive than others offering the same facilities. But we were at a quiet CS north of York recently & it was £12.50 for grass pitch, EHU & water, loo a short walk away. So I think it's just some owners who are charging what the market will pay.

Average price I'm finding for a grass pitch is £18 - £20 non EHU. OK that's for two people but few will give even a small discount for solo campers.

Just costed (not paid) a CAMC site at Cromer, over £500 for 12 nights! Going to a CS which is £18- more than we normally pay but all the cheaper sites are fully booked, the Brexit effect I assume.

Campsite prices have been rising rapidly ever since the recession started hitting some years ago. Camping has become more popular over recent years as people forego foreign holidays and turn to camping in the UK. Campsites of course are coining it in.

There are still nice sites to be found at an acceptable price and as a solo camper I have about 4 regular sites that have retained their dignity and not gone down the get rich quick path.

In order to be able to afford to go to other places, I have teamed up with a mate and we now share a tent and the expenses. So far it is working out well although we have paid up to £25 a night at a couple of sites, which really goes against the grain, but since we are sharing the cost it is only £12.50 each a night inclusive of EHU.

Certainly if it wasn't for sharing, and except for those 4 sites previously mentioned (there may be many others if you search), I am being priced out of camping altogether.
