Been a member of cccs for 12 months (this time around) wanted to be back in Norfolk for our hols . Decided to book cccs own site at Norwich. I'm a 60 plus person so qualify for a nice discount. There are 2 adults a caravan and awning. When I went to book can you imagine my horror when I was quoted £377 for 10 nights. This is outrageous what do we pay cccs for. Ended up at our usual private site more and better facilities for over £100 cheaper.   Anyone else experienced high prices at cccs owned sites....

I have just checked the prices for Kingsbury Water Park for September (so "Mid Season") and have decided not to renew my membership after this year.

I recently checked the prices for Ebury Hill Camping & Caravanning Club site near Shrewsbury (no facilities) and used to be much cheaper. That returned a price of £102 for 5 nights in mid September which includes the 25% age concession discount. Seems a bit steep now as to what it used to be so not getting the full benefit of being in the club either.

We are members of both clubs, but only use CLs/CSs, the prices for Club sites are ridiculous.

A lot of the problem with the club sites is the length of what they call "high season". It seems to extend from early June right through to mid September. We have recently come back from a lovely private site near Weston Super Mare. We were originally looking at the Cheddar C&CC site, but it was way too expensive despite us being senior members and getting a discount. The private site we stayed on's high season didn't start until about now, so they were around half the price of Cheddar.

You have to remember that the C&CC is no longer the club that was started by a group of cycle campers many years ago.
It is now a high profile holiday company renting out lodges, pre-erected tents etc, resulting in a dwindling number of pitches, and also acting as insurance brokers.
When I first joined the club it was The Camping Club of Great Britain & Ireland, only accepting tents.
Over the years I saw it reducing the number of pitches in order to accommodate caravans, motorhomes, statics, log cabins etc. whilst increasing their fees far in excess of independent sites in order to cover their huge administration and advertising costs.

We left the club after over 20 years of membership. We realised there are out of season deals at private sites far cheaper than club sites. About ten years ago the club suddenly changed direction and began marketing holiday lodges which altered the whole strategy of the club. The CS were useful but proof of membership was never questioned so there was no need to continue membership. A different club to 30 years ago.

Not trying to defend the c.c.c. but the high season is so long as school summer holidays are different around the country ,so they probably make it so the high season covers everyone.

have you tried using CSs? they vary in quality but some of them are very good with loos and showers if you need them.

Surely they aren't that different? I believe that Scotland's school summer holidays start and end earlier than England's, but most English schools are the same give or take a few days I would have thought. Maybe I'm wrong? I am a C&CC member, but not just for the prices. I did think so at one time, but I quickly realised different. We haven't used a Club site this year at all, and probably won't. We go wherever suits us best, depending on where we want to go, as well as prices. I do like the Club's Cs sites and we've been on some great ones. We don't go to sites that "have everything", as we are a couple of pensioners who don't like crowded and busy places, and we don't need playgrounds, club-houses, or swimming pools and amusements.

Both clubs have become greedy. It now works out a lot cheaper to use commercial sites which have more facilities. Actually come to think of it, cheaper to go to France than to use some club sites. Also the French have a much shorter peak season and only two pricing tiers. peak and low season and if you are an ACSI member you can save a fortune on a site with all the facilities including an indoor and outdoor swimming pool.

I would beg to differ than commercial / independent sites are a lot cheaper than the clubs.

On recent trips in Wales and Scotland we found most of the commercial sites either matched or slightly more expensive that the C&MC sites. Facilities were generally similar in standard, Maybe sites now look at the clubs and set their prices accordingly, £25 to £27 seemed to be going rate in Scotland on club and non club sites

One benefit for us on club sites is the all in price. On commercial / independent sites there is often an extra charge for dogs, awnings, showers, pup tents etc. So we have found what starts out being a low priced site can add on £5 a night for dogs and showers.

Whilst we have the yearly membership to pay that £52 is soon repaid over a couple of weeks.

What we did find was C&MC sites were generally very busy, independent sites less so. We had read sites were busy throughout Scotland but found it was really the club sites that were full to bursting, plenty of room on small and large independents at very similar prices.

We camp out of high season, will next go away in Setember and pay about £18pn also know sites charging about £100 a week. We have 2 dogs so trawl through the lists of extras. Won't go to a site with all the extra charges (awning, dog wifi). Takes a bit of research but worth it. Our criteria is nice clean loos/showers, dishwashing facilities, dog walk, wifi, EHU. Once we find the Holy Grail we stick with it 😊

Like you we never go away with our caravan during the school holidays, so will next go away in September. Our criteria for sites is exactly the same, except for us wi-fi is optional. If they have it, great, but if they don't, no problem.

We spent the first two weeks of July on a lovely privately owned site near Weston-Super-Mare. They did charge £1 a night for our dog, but even including this it only cost us £224. Electricity was extra and metered, and this cost us less than £3 for the two weeks! We do only use it for our fridge, kettle, and battery charging though. We would have paid more than £3 a night on a C&CC site, and we are senior members with a discount on site fees. We originally wanted to book the C&CC site in Cheddar, but this would have cost us nearly double what we paid!
